Running 50:55 [3] 7.3 mi (6:59 / mi)

To Prospect Park - 13:38
One loop - 23:49
Back home - 13:28
Had to take a a bathroom stop in the park, felt much, much better afterwards. Still looking to buy new running shoes, but will wait till my first paycheck, I think.

Other (Racquetball) 1:10:00 [2]

A few games of racquetball on an off-day from running around.

Biking 20:00 [2]

Biking to and from Prospect Park

Running 26:13 [3] 3.5 mi (7:29 / mi)

One loop around Prospect Park with a couple of detours, with Sergei.

Running 27:07 [4] 3.97 mi (6:50 / mi)

Hill running with (and without Sergei). I took it fairly easy, since i was pretty tired after the soccer game yesterday. Still ended up doing several loops and hill sprints at pretty good speed.

Soccer 1:20:00 [4]

A very intense soccer match, our (and mine, too) best of the summer. Still a 2-2 tie, but we played a man down the whole way and battled for every ball. Lots of fun too!

Orienteering 1:33:39 [4] 8.3 km (11:17 / km) +265m 9:44 / km

DVOA Local meet at Mt.Penn - Antietam. My first actual orienteering race in a while, and it showed. Plently of mistakes and obvious evidence of lack of endurance towards the end. A disappointing race. I hope to call this the low point, and to start working upwards from here, focusing on endurance, maintaining concentration, and map reading on the run.

Orienteering 20:00 [2] 2.5 km (8:00 / km)

Setting a sprint course and following people around it jogging during the Junior training session that Sergei and i put on after the meet.

Orienteering 3:21 [5] 0.75 km (4:28 / km)

Racing the sprint course head-to-head against John F.

Biking 50:00 [2]

To my aunt's house and back, mostly in the rain.

Soccer 45:00 [4]

First half of soccer game in Brooklyn. Felt great, played well, ran hard.

Soccer 25:00 [3]
(injured)

Part of the second half of the game - twisted my ankle right at the start of the half and could not play full-speed the rest of the game. It doesn't appear to be sprained, though, which is nice.

Soccer 1:30:00 [3]

A pick-up in Jersey City. Finally, a nice, cool evening. I felt great and played well.

Running 1:41:42 [4] 11.7 mi (8:42 / mi) +600m 7:30 / mi

A noble, but pathetic attempt at running the Mt.Penn Half-Marathon in PA. Started off fast (6:15 - first mile), then slowed down for a while and started feeling very good and picking up speed after 3 miles, when i ran off in the wrong direction (opposite the direction of the course) with a group of seven others, including Mihai. We ended up doing a huge loop basically going against the other runners, but i managed to get off course again and ended up cutting off some distance by accident. I did push pretty hard the whole time since I had Mihai to run with. Wish i could run the right way, though... Congrats to Graeme (1st) and Sergei (3rd) on their great runs!

Biking 50:00 [2]

An adventurous ride through the streets of Brooklyn to my aunt's house and back. Had to swerve to avoid potholes, cars, Hassidic Jews marching their 11-child families painfully slowly across the street, and other natural obstacles.

Soccer 1:20:00 [3]

Soccer practice-game in heat and humidity. Still not feeling totally recovered from the Rogaine, but definitely a lot better than Monday. Will probably take the next couple of days off before the Half-Marathon in Pennsylvania that Sergei convinced me to run this Sunday.

Soccer 50:00 [3]

Playing a league soccer game two days after the rogaine was not a good idea. My body definitely has not recovered, and my heart rate would stay high for quite some time every time i made a sprint to the ball. Oh yeah, and we lost, too.

Orienteering 7:10:04 [3] 28.9 km (14:53 / km)

DVOA 8-hour Rogaine at Hickory Run. Ran it with Sergey. We got 58 out of 66 controls and 3131 points out of a maximum 3526. Very happy with our performance - maybe 15 min of mistakes the whole way, probably less. Very tough physically, though, including a (i am not kidding) 250m stretch of literally crawling on the ground through thick, thick green. A great experience, though, and nice to feel that i can orienteer again. It's been a while since a real race. Thanks to Sergey for being an awesome partner.

Running 49:47 [3] 7.08 mi (7:02 / mi)

Running in Brooklyn: 13:19 to Prospect Park;
22:52 - a loop in the park; 13:36 running back home.
My feet have been hurting quite a bit when i run in my current running shoes. I think they are too narrow for my foot... Might have to invest in a new pair soon.

Tennis 1:00:00 [2]

Sunday Aug 4, 2002 #

Orienteering 56:14 [4] 8.43 km (6:40 / km)

BAOC local meet at the UC Berkeley campus. A 3-loop motala.

Saturday Aug 3, 2002 #

Running 10:13 [3] 1.43 mi (7:09 / mi)

Running from Sausalito to the bottom of the big hill that goes into the Marin Highlands.

Running 6:03 [5] 0.87 mi (6:57 / mi)

Hill repeats on the steep hill going up to Marin Highlands.
2:02
1:59
2:02

Running 18:30 [2] 2.31 mi (8:00 / mi)

Jogging between the hill repeats and running back home afterwards.

Note

Ok, i will return to regularly posting training on attackpoint. I've been slacking the last few weeks because of a really chaotic period in my existence, which included a decision to stay in New York this coming year and not move to California as was originally planned. I will now resume more-or-less real training, with the US Relay Champs and US Individual Champs as events to peak for and the Half-Wit Half-Marathon that SerZhyk is making me run at Mt.Penn on August 18 as a good intermediate test of my physical shape.

Thursday Aug 1, 2002 #

Running 52:35 [3] 7.25 mi (7:15 / mi)

A run through the Marin Highlands above Sausalito - very hilly, my legs feel quite weak after the first few hills.
