Orienteering 1:01:30 [3] 7.0 km (8:47 / km)

Hanging controls and running a course at Lewis Morris in NJ on a very hot, humid day. Did not feel good, did not concentrate well at all, and my blister started hurting towards the end. Yuck. Was going to pick up controls and maybe run some more, but really did not feel up to it. About the worst I've felt since Wyoming.

Orienteering 1:11:11 [4] 8.5 km (8:22 / km) +210m 7:27 / km

DVOA Local meet at Hickory Run. Ran in sneakers 'cause my blister still hasn't healed. Paid for it in the creek crossings, as the sneakers got soggy and heavy. Decent race otherwise, with a sizeable mistake on 9 that let j-man catch me.

Saturday Aug 21, 2004 #

Running 40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

A loop in Forest Park with Sergei in the humidity. Very tough, sweating buckets. Blister didn't hurt though.

Warm-up, cool-down, jogging on the track, avoiding dogs and bicyclists. My blister seems to feel ok when I run in running shoes, not so good in O-shoes. Hmmm, orienteering at Harriman in sneakers tomorrow?

Running around Forest Park with Greg and Sergei

Friday Aug 13, 2004 #

Running 1:00:00 [3] 7.9 mi (7:36 / mi)

First time running since getting back to New York. Man, it is humid here!!!! I was soaked within five minutes of starting my run. I had taken a couple of days off to heal my blisters, and taped the big one today like Greg showed me. Amazingly, it worked - little pain, and the tape stayed on!
Two loops in Forest Park - 26:06, 26:14.

Orienteering 1:30:04 [3] 11.66 km (7:43 / km) +415m 6:33 / km

Final day of the 1000-day, chase start. Taped the blisters, took the codeine, and I am on my way, limping along. Started right behing Michael Eglin and ran most of the way with him, both of us suffering together through the chest-high beaver ponds. I got ahead in the end and stayed ahead, for 9th place overall.

Orienteering 31:59 [4] 5.45 km (5:52 / km) +110m 5:20 / km

Leg 1 of Crystal Relay. Blisters still bothering me, but ok otherwise. Course had to be changed because of the gay encampment of the map! Pretty funny. We ran by a "Faerie Crossing" sign. :)
I ended up 2 minutes back of the lead group, in 6th. Team ended up 5th (Me - Viktoria - Peter - Alexei). Behind Eddie's SVO team, on the last leg, it was a monster pack of Platt, Bone, Scarborough, Azarov, and Riley. They (mainly Mikell) almost caught Eddie, but he held on. Our team was ruled ineligible by Mikell, which i sort of disagree with but not enough to argue about.

Orienteering 19:30 [3] 2.6 km (7:30 / km)

Beer Chase!!! Ran in sandals to keep the blisters from getting worse and in Louise's skirt for kicks. Ran with Erin and raced Peter for 3rd place. Yummy beer thanks to Don Davis!! All around great time, followed by spectating at the Culvert Crawl as described by PG in the dscussion page.

Orienteering 1:24:21 [4] 9.6 km (8:47 / km) +360m 7:24 / km

Day 4 of the 1000-day. I have recovered from the disappointment of Day 2 of team trials, but still have not recovered from the blisters. Plus, my stomach felt awful that morning. It cleared up a bit later, i changed my start time, and dragged my butt out there. This course included the only time i can remember intentionally choosing a route that went off the map and then back on. Pretty cool.

Orienteering 1:55:15 [3] 15.2 km (7:35 / km) +320m 6:52 / km

Team Trials Day 2 (also day 3 of 1000-day.) Had absolutely nothing in me today, neither physically nor mentally. Basically a disastrous day on a great map and a great course.

Tuesday Aug 3, 2004 #

Orienteering 42:24 [4] 6.2 km (6:50 / km) +230m 5:46 / km

Team Trials Day 1 (also day 2 of 1000-day). Very good run for me, almost completely clean. Ran hard, but still wasn't close to Eddie's awesome time (37:55).

Sunday Aug 1, 2004 #

Orienteering 1:08:38 [4] 8.55 km (8:02 / km) +305m 6:49 / km

Day 1 of the 1000-Day. Felt weak towards the end, couldn't stay with Mook after he passed me. Also made a couple of mistakes in the first half of the course. Brian ran 56 min.
