Warm-up
Orienteering 1:38:37 [4]12.05 km (8:11 / km) +385m 7:03 / km
Day 2 of CNYO/EMPO A-Meet at Thacher State Park. Started off by losing about 3 minutes total on the first two controls, but things went better after that. Ended up 2nd for the day, 2:40 behind Sergei, and 2nd overall for the weekend, about 1:30 behind Kenny. Pretty happy with that. In general, i am quite happy with my results so far this fall, with one last important week-end coming up in California. Will have to rest up this week to prepare for the famous BAOC mountains and poison oak...

Orienteering 35:48 [4]5 km (7:10 / km) +110m 6:27 / km
Northeast Relay Champs. Team Goats (Greg - me - Sergei) had a fairly sad debut, getting its butt kicked by quite a few other teams. Oh well. A pretty crappy run for me, with close to 6 minutes of errors on such a short course!

Sunday Oct 17

Orienteering 1:29:03 [4]12.2 km (7:18 / km) +460m 6:08 / km
US Champs - Day 2. Less cold, still physical, and not too technical. Caught Eddie early and sped up, hoping he'd run with me. We took different route choices going into 3, however, and I was alone again. Ran well until about 11, and then suddenly began to feel very tired. Pushed hard towards the end, but still the energy wasn't there, and I lost some time just on running speed. Still, I was very happy with my result - 7th overall, 5th American, I think. My goal after missing the team at the Team Trials was to make top 5 at the US Champs, and I am quite satisfied with this result.
Also, congratulations are in order to Will for kicking our butts, and a great thank you to Brian and the whole MNOC crew for making an awesome US Champs at a great location possible!

Saturday Oct 16

Orienteering 1:09:53 [4]9 km (7:46 / km) +360m 6:28 / km
US Champs - Day 1. Very cold and snowy in Northern Wisonsin. A physical course, but not as technical as I had expected. I made about 4 minutes in errors, including about a minute when i dropped my SI and control descriptions after a nasty fall and went back to look for both, luckily finding the SI. Caught Leif in the end and ran the last several legs with him.
Orienteering 29:41 [1]1.9 km (15:37 / km)
Map-hiking the US Team Fundraiser Sprint with Amy. Fun course! The timing of the race- between two days of the US Champs - once again demonstrated the need for a separate Sprint class of A-Meets that need to start taking place in the US.

Tuesday Oct 12

Running 38:35 [3]5.14 mi (7:30 / mi)
Easy road run after school. Ankle hurt a bit, but should be ok by Telemark. Main problem this week is not getting enough sleep, with grading, college recs to write, the Yankee games and presidential debates to watch, and GREs to take.
Running 8:00 [5]
8 strides on grass

Sunday Oct 10

Orienteering 1:23:08 [3]11.3 km (7:21 / km)
First part of Highlander IX. Dropped out due to a mild ankle sprain. Hope to be better by this week-end's US Champs.

Saturday Oct 9

Orienteering 23:14 [3]2.9 km (8:01 / km) +140m 6:27 / km
Highlander Sprint - Semifinal. Did not run all out and felt pretty tired, making a couple of careless errors. Made the final in 3rd place, behind Leif and Greg.
Orienteering 23:20 [4]3 km (7:47 / km) +125m 6:26 / km
Highlander Sprint, Final. Started 4th, ran hard from the beginning and felt tired at first, but hit a couple of controls and picked it up. Coming out of 3rd, saw Sergei who started 3 minutes ahead and ran hard on trails to catch up by the time we hit 4. Eddie was there too, and we ran together the rest of the way, navigating fairly well through the very technical area near the end of the course. I made a mistake on 9, but got to 10 with Eddie and to the finish ahead of him. 1st place, just 20 seconds faster than Leif.
Running 30:00 [2]3.53 mi (8:30 / mi)
Warm-ups and picking up controls after the sprints. Feeling very tired but excited before the Highlander tomorrow.

Thursday Oct 7

Running 55:00 [3]7.33 mi (7:30 / mi)
Warm-up, long cool-down, jogging between repeats.
Running 7:33 [5]1.31 mi (5:46 / mi)

Monday Oct 4

Running 1:08:07 [3]9.5 mi (7:09 / mi)
Running with the XC guys at the Reservoir. Felt beaten up from this week-end.....Bruises everywhere.

Sunday Oct 3

Running 10:00 [2]1.18 mi (8:28 / mi)
Warm-up
Orienteering 1:16:12 [4]10.2 km (7:28 / km) +330m 6:26 / km
DVOA A-Meet, Day 2. Rockhouse. One of my better Day 2 runs in a long time. A couple of small mistakes, plus a nasty fall that left me hobbling for a little while. Otherwise, ran fast and with confidence, feeling stronger in the end than in the beginning. Sergei was still amazing, but I managed 2nd for the day, though stayed 4th overall.

Saturday Oct 2

Running 10:00 [2]1.18 mi (8:28 / mi)
Warm-up
Orienteering 1:37:53 [4]10.2 km (9:36 / km) +470m 7:48 / km
DVOA A-Meet, Day 1. 4th place, destroyed by Sergei, Leif, Alexei. A lot of people had problems on the very demanding course. I made a couple of major route choice errors, losing a bunch of time. Legs felt pretty strong, though, which is a good sign.
