Note

Gave a talk to camp participants and a couple of TSN members (including Jaxon Rickel, a very promising junior) about my experience living and training with OK Linné in Sweden. This was followed by a talk by Raffael Huber (Swiss B-Team) about the benefits and responsibilities of being on the Swiss National Team, and a few other Swissy things. Great talk. Can someone help me start an orienteering high school in Hudson Valler?

Much better today. Two small mistakes. Didn't lose too much time searching for the missing control, but still a little frustrating. Map and analysis later. The desert is awesome, but I still have a lot to learn about orienteering here.

Skiing 40:00 [2]

Skiing race 15:20 [5] 4.5 km (3:24 / km)

An actual ski race! Well, almost. Drove up to Winding Trails in Farmington with Kat and two people from the Yale ski team, Will and Holly. Winding Trails does a weekly Wednesday night race whenever they have snow, and tonight they had some - a loop of man-made snow about 750m long. I was completely unprepared to race, as I hadn't done it since 2002, and it sure felt hard. I got my butt kicked by Will by nearly two minutes, and my technique was pretty crappy, but it was fun in that same painful way I recall it being fun from my racing days. This winter is pretty much over for me as far as skiing as concerned, but I am motivated to do some ski-specific training for next winter, as skiing seems to hurt my butt a lot less than running/orienteering.
Oh yeah: Winding Trails seems like a great place for orienteering, and the guy who runs the place said he'd totally let us use it for events if we mapped it. WCOC mapping project?
