Ran at Maltby Lakes with Mike and Marie for the last time for a while.
Note
The awesome Jan Kocbach has started a blog for the 101 maps you should run on before you die: http://orienteeringmaps.net/blog/
I am very excited about following the blog and seeing which maps make the list, and how many of them I have run on. If I had to guess, then I have probably run on 10-15 of them. Here are some of the maps that I've been on that I would put on the list, in no particular order:
Lunsen (SWE)
Surebridge (USA)
Pawtuckaway (USA)
One of the Alol' maps near Pskov (RUS)
One of the Sälen maps (SWE)
Barbate (ESP)
Guardamar Sur (ESP)
Long Lake (CAN)
Mt. Laurie (CAN)
Venice (ITA)
Cervara di Roma (ITA)
The middle distance map from WOC '2003 (Bot Fiena Trin) (SUI)
The volcanic map from World Cup 2006 (FRA)
Crohane (IRE)
High Dam or maybe Yewdala (GBR)
Trockener Steg-Klein Matterhorn (SUI)
-------------------------------------------------------
Some other favorites that probably don't quite belong up there:
Cat's Meow (USA)
Pelican Bay (USA)
Monte Livata (ITA)
One of the Kapa 3-days maps from 2007 (LAT)
Las Mimbres (ESP)
Lembolovo/Orekhovo (RUS)
Florissant Fossil Beds (USA)
Pedreanes (POR)
Ansonia (USA)
Kårsta (SWE)
Åhus strand (SWE)
Nacka (SWE)
War Eagle (CAN)
Anza Borrego (USA)
Bortnychi North (UKR)
--------------------------------------------------------
And a wish list:
Grand Bazaar in Istanbul (TUK)
The Trossachs (GBR)
Gyllbergen (SWE)
Plitvička jezera (CRO)
US Champs 2005 map from Oregon (USA)
Something in Trondheim (NOR)
The crazy map from Greenland that was profiled in OToday (DEN)
Sandstone terrain in Czech Rep (CZE)
The map from NOM 1984, Trommsö (NOR)
Bay of Fundy (CAN)
Galgahraun (ISL)
More suggestions always welcome (in particular, I know nothing about maps in AUS and NZ. What are the best ones?)
Note
Took the annual online Jeopardy contestant test today - a first step to achieving a long-standing dream someday. 50 questions, 15 seconds each - pretty intense. Had Kat standing over my shoulder taking pictures of the questions so I could check the answers afterwards. I think I got 33 right, 15 wrong, and 2 I am not sure about. Definitely not good enough to be called up to the next round, but not as far off as I had imagined. Goal for 2011: 40 right.
Note
Another bag lost by United. Have called three times today, redirected to India each time and told that (a) bag is in Hartford, (b) bag is in Chicago, and (c) bag is nowhere to be found. Fantastic.
