Running 30:00 intensity: (25:00 @2) + (5:00 @4) 3.87 mi (7:45 / mi)
shoes: 2010 Asics

On a treadmill at the hotel in Phoenix, just after getting in. The 77F outside is a nice change from yesterday's frigid morning in Amherst.

Running 30:00 [2]

Warm-up, cool-down and collecting some streamers with Ross after the sprint.

CSU SuperStars Sprint at UMass Amherst, set by Alex.

Started out well, feeling reasonably springy. I had Neil, who had started 1 minute before me, in sight on the way to #4 and was gradually closing on him. Got by him at 10 when he didn't see the streamer and promptly ran off towards the uncrossable wall in front of 11. Got trapped and lost a minute. Spent the rest of the race trying to chase down Neil again, but only got to within about 30 seconds.
Really fun course and a fun area. Thanks Alex!

Orienteering 48:30 [3] 6.91 km (7:01 / km) +147m 6:20 / km
shoes: VJ Supra

CSU SuperStars Quabbin Hill training by PG. The really old map held up fine with respect to contours and rocks, and we were told to ignore vegetation, so the training worked very well. I was left behind at the start as I didn't understand where we were, but soon caught up to the pack and was running with people around for a while, everyone veering off to their forkings. Made a mistake with Neil when I didn't understand the way a steep hill was mapped as an earthbank, and then was on my own since Neil had a longer forking, being less of a weakling than me. Was by myself for the loop across the road and orienteered well. Came into the last control on the far side of the road just behind Ali, J-J, and Balter, but got massive stomach cramps and had to stop for a while. Then jogged the last few controls.
Really enjoyed the training, would have loved to race the last few controls, but the stomach didn't let me. Thanks Peter for a great session!

With Mike and Marie at Maltby Lakes. Marie designed a strength training, doing various drills uphill. This included all sorts of sprints, jumps, bounds, hops, and the dreaded rabbit hop. Tough workout, and lots of fun with good company.

weight:186.4lbs shoes: VJ Supra

Reading about Sebba's adventures in the icy and snowy darkness of Uppsala sure motivated my own butt out the door. Got together with Marie, as well as Holly and Will from the Yale ski team and went for a wet run at West Rock. It's no NĂ¥sten in the dead of winter, but it still felt cool to splash through the overflowing streams in the darkness. Nice run, nice company.
