Måsenstafetten

Running 20:00 [2] 3.33 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Supra Spring 2012

Short warmup and short cooldown
12 PM

Orienteering 57:44 [4] 9.51 km (6:04 / km) +160m 5:36 / km
shoes: VJ Supra Spring 2012

Måsenstafetten - the year's first relay, run at Nynäs Slott in some great terrain.

I ran for Linné's 4th team: Micke N - Pontus J - Ulrik I - Boris G

Our 5th team was a combination with Kalevan Rasti, featuring Thierry on the first leg and Ross on 3rd, among others. Pretty cool!

I went out in 41st place, not really around other teams. Ran a solid race, without major problems. I felt pretty strong throughout and confident in my orienteering. Lost contact for a bit going to 13, but relocated quickly, and got off my line to 14, also relocating quickly. Probably lost a minute and a half or so total, but that seems ok in this tricky terrain. Finished 31st, picking up 10 places.

Linné's 1st and 2nd teams were battling near the top all day, and finished 2nd and 3rd, while our ladies were 3rd and 4th. A great start to the season for the club!

Nyköpinsorienteringen

Running 40:00 [2] 6.67 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Supra Spring 2012

Long warmup and long cool-down
11 AM

Orienteering 1:19:16 [4] 11.81 km (6:43 / km) +86m 6:28 / km
shoes: VJ Supra Spring 2012

First race of the year: Nyköpingsorienteringen on the Nynäs Slott map in Sörmland.

Long distance, 10.0km, 19 controls.

Was definitely worried about my hamstring, but it held up ok. I ran well early on, except for a zigzag on 3, and had a good race going through 9 controls. I then weaved a bit too much on the way to 10, and finally blew up on the way to 11 when I lost focus distracted by other runners. I ended up on the ridge that 11 was one, but had no clue how high I was, and so I ran back and forth trying to relocate. Ended up losing about 5 minutes on the control - unacceptable. I was then feeling tired, and twisted an ankle on the way to 14 after overrunning 13. Finished ok, and the result wasn't terrible, but I can definitely do better.

Morning jog in Stadsskogen followed by a good stretching session. Hamstring definitely not happy. Will try to race this weekend and then go see someone about it next week.

Orienteering 59:44 intensity: (19:44 @2) + (40:00 @4) 9.0 km (6:38 / km) +58m 6:26 / km
shoes: VJ Falcons 2012

Oienteering intervals on the eastern part of Lunsen, from Nyby.

A beautiful sunny afternoon, and a good group of 9 of us, including two world champions, Thierry and Annika!

The intervals were fun, and it was cool to watch Thierry smoothly fly through the forest and then discuss what objects he was using to navigate by afterwards. Each leg had some features circled that you were meant to use as checkpoints along the way, which was very useful sometimes (like when the circled object is one that stands out and is easily visible) and less useful other times, like when it is less distinct or not on the line through terrain that you intend to take. I felt good for the first few intervals, but got tired in the end, and finished by breaking through the ice on one of the marshes, tripping and smacking hard on the ice with both my hands and my knees. Lots of blood everywhere, though no serious damage. It did make coming back to work after the training more entertaining.

Wednesday Night-O on North Lunsen

Nice warm day in Uppsala, felt very excited to get out and run and test the hamstring after taking the day off yesterday. Hamstring felt fine for running hard for about 45 minutes and then felt sore again, so I jogged the last two legs. Orienteered mostly well, especially in the beginning, but made a mistake on 11 like, seemingly, everyone else.

T.rex training 48:00 [1]

Rockgympa, how I missed you! I really enjoyed it tonight and worked hard. A big crowd on hand, too - 38 people. Brave Ross led the way for us! No innebandy for me tonight - taking it easy on the hamstring.
