We had our first SkiO!
I'd never organized a SkiO before, so I asked Ken Walker Sr. for some tips and consultation ahead of the event, which was tremendously helpful. Converting the Lubrecht map to SkiO mapping standards was not super-challenging, and Ken provided some great feedback on my course design. The most important was taking down the difficulty level for the Short/Beginner course, which was excellent advice. Ken also sent us two SkiO map holders to borrow, which was great for hanging controls. Tyra, Siri, Alli, and I all got to use them during the event, which was pretty cool as well.
The event itself was very successful. We ended up with 63 participants, making it the 3rd largest GrizO event to date. We rented the Lubrecht rec. hall and had beginner instruction and snacks there.
We got excellent volunteer help from a number of people, and the event really felt like it had some atmosphere. The presence of Siri, Tyra, and Hannah Specht with map holders and the look of people who knew what they were doing also helped.
There were some decent route choice options on the Long course, and some good post-race route analysis, which we love to see.
Finally, the groomer, Steve Gaskill, offered to collect controls on his Ginzu, which we gladly took him up on.
Really psyched to have pulled this off, and grateful for all the help along the way. The only snag was accidentally clearing the epunch of one team on the long course instead of downloading it. Working on restoring the result now.
