Skiathlon race at the U of M golf course, 2x7km, first classic, then skate. I only ended up deciding to do the race like an hour beforehand, so no real prep. Except that Jan waxed my skis. Thanks Jan!
I don't seem to own any two pairs of skis with the same bindings, so I needed to switch boots in addition to switching skis, which added some hilarity and stress to the process. Fun race, though. I slapped some klister on my skis right before the start, and that didn't do a damn thing, as I (like everyone else) simply ran up both the hills that the golf course has to offer. Nearly bit it on the sharp right turn after the second hill, but stayed upright.
I was 6th through the classic part, miles behind Jan in the lead, but closing on the 5th guy, then lost a minute on virtually everyone else in the transition area, then started gaining back on the skate part again, but ran out of room to catch the two guys ahead of me. A really fun race, with taco dinner afterwards. Unsurprisingly, Jan crushed everyone.
