Richmond Street-O

Running felt good tonight, like Street-O's of old - managed to maintain a pretty good pace throughout, fairly good control flow, and felt pretty strong the whole way. A good multi-choice Q&A at each control (mainly postboxes and lampposts) meant there was no wasted time at control sites, always good!

Decided to cover the western half of the area first (St Margarets) across the river, knowing this was the flat bit of the area. Did every control that side, then when back in Richmond decided not to push it uphill to get a few big 40-pointers in the SE but to try to clean up all the rest. So ended up getting all controls except 3 x 40's and 2 x 10's, and finishing comfortably with a bit of time to spare (although I should probably have gone for the 40 in the NE corner and could have added maybe 20 to the total in doing that).

Results - 3rd out of 72

Broadstone Warren

Southdowns Middle Distance race. Quite a steep area (course said 240m climb despite Garmin showing less), and I felt dreadfully unfit for the hills, very slowly jogging up some of them and walking up far more. But plenty of downhill too which I tried to push much harder on. Nice forested area and well suited to middle distance. Navigated fairly well, apart from finding no 2 before no 1, but little time loss elsewhere - although it was fairly easy on the whole and controls were hung quite visibly. But need to get fitter to run well in terrain like this!

Results - 4th out of 26 (Black course)

Hyde Park

Intervals (4 x 1km, off 2:00 recovery) - splits 3:41, 3:36, 3:59, 3:39 (average 3:44)

Not really at the races today. Cold, wet and a swirling wind, and didn't feel really up for an intervals session, but tried anyway. First one felt tough into the wind, but pushed through it. Second one much easier with the wind on my side. But found the 3rd far too tough and nearly quit half way through (dodgy stomach not helping as well), slowed ridiculously, but decided to at least try to keep going to the end of the km. But somehow pulled it around to do a decent the 4th one back with the wind back at normal pace.

So not really very good, will write this off as a bad day - still early days of trying to build my fitness back up again.
