Orienteering 32:24 [4] 5.7 km (5:41 / km) +50m 5:27 / km
shoes: VJ Bold 7

Left my GPS in my Hold Luggage which was stuck on a coach so distance is a guess. Enjoyed the course, although there was some unusually big differences in gaffles, with some courses up to 275m shorter straight line. This made it difficult to see where I was in terms of position. Was running with JLeitch for the middle section, after moving past a group of people that formed a train behind. However, he had a different gaffle and came in a fair way ahead of me. A better run than the individual

JIRCS Cambus O'May

Dissapointed with another poor run at an Orienteering Race. Can't seem to get it together at the moment.

Bottled it to #1, running fine before missing a ride I intended to hit and losing map contact down the slope. Bad route to #2, took in way too much climb. Having lost 3 minutes in the first 25 of the course, I took another bad route to #4, opting to follow underneath a pylon. Don't know why I thought this was a good idea, given that all pylons are in open areas where the summer vegetation is dire. Messed up #4 in the circle, going into a depression as a final attackpoint before getting diverted by vegetation and failing to use my compass again, going onto the wrong hill and hesitating. Legs seemed to be running in front of my head- kept hesitating near the circle of every control. Lost some time to #10 after mistakenly believing that a section of windblown trees was the vegetation boundary that the control was placed near. #12 I lost confidence in my original bearing and drifted, losing some time. Overall, there was barely any controls where I felt that everything went right.

Even with the mistakes, it was clear from the splits that I was off the pace. Might still be unfit, or just being too hesitant on too many controls.

Forgot to reset the time, and realised when I'd finished warming up that the trace would look a bit weird. Took out the time and distance involved in faffing at the station. Also, my HRM thinks that an item in my bag was pumping away at a steady 180 bpm.

10 x 60s [~2 mins]

Went to Sutton Park because there is a short, steep hill and I had time on my hands. It felt rough and I was glad to get it done- after 4 reps I didn't think I would be able to finish it. The recoveries were supposed to be shorter but I was just going back down the same hill, so they were longer but I suspect I wouldn't have been able to keep up any kind of pace off 1 minute. The 60s reps had a short flat section at the end- some of the reps are over 1 minute because for the last few I just ran the same distance rather than keeping an eye on the time. I was also supposed to do 10 mins Tempo to finish, but pretty knackered after the reps so I think they did the job on their own.

Crawling along. Stopped to change into respectable shoes to get on a train at the entrance to the park, and saw that I had a train in 2 minutes. Caned it to the station to find out it was cancelled

Comfortable until the last rep. That turned out to be a slow k which is kind of disappointing. Can't figure out how to mix intensities properly.
