JEC Long

Dissapointed to drop out after such a random problem. Going steady up until 5, some poor micro routechoice (getting stuck in windblown) in places but otherwise fine. On the way to #6, descending the steep hill, I felt a sudden movement (like a popping) in my knee. Took another step but my other leg basically stopped moving so I took a tumble down the slope. Sat there for a couple of minutes in pain and unsure what to do as I couldn't move the dodgy leg. This subsided, and I got up to go and punch #6, although I already knew that there wasn't really much point in continuing at a hobble. My 2 minute man had already come past so I knew that a good run was blown even if I was able to run properly. Shuffled along the tracks, back through the SOL start (where I was stared at with confusion a fair amount) and finished. The only positive to take is that I was doing well up to that early point in the race.

No Garmin so distance is a guess.

Moved into a team with Dane and Daniel, and was looking forward to being seriously competitive in the relay as a whole, going for top places. Dane did his job of coming back with a pack, and I didn't do my job. An early gaffle difference and a 1 minute mistake to it left me isolated. I was running on my own up to #10, then had runners in sight. Nothing heroic in the middle section, and had the opportunity to put Daniel in with some scandi boys, but another late error of 2 mins to #21 put me off the back of them too. Lost 8 places in total. I find that I get more angry when I know that I've let down other people as well as myself, and I definitely did that. I probably need to learn to set emotions aside in a race- I often lose my rhythm and make consecutive mistakes once I've made an initial error, mainly because I haven't put the first mistake out of my mind.

JEC Sprint

Didn't know what to expect from myself in terms of speed, which probably helped as I didn't put any pressure on myself. The fact I'd come from home made it feel like a normal weekend event, and even in quarantine I I felt as if I wasn't nervous enough. Made a good start in the forest but lost a fair amount of time deciding which way to go to #5, around 20s on the fastest times. The campus section went well with the exception of a poor route to #6, taking tight turns underneath the canopy rather than running round the outside. Over into the park, losing time to #16 because I changed my route from round to straight, basically doing an S shape. Came to the right of #20 slightly, losing a tiny bit of time.

Overall, I was happy and surprised to get this result. The fact that I still made some errors and came so close to a medal is something to work on.
