Two Breweries

Have been struggling with a cold in the last week but was hopeful it wouldn't affect me much for this. The start was pleasantly sociable and there was a big pack trotting along, I felt pretty rubbish straight away but it was manageable. Got to the top of the first climb just off the front and then everyone was faffing on the descent so I had a moment of glory and took the lead, with Tam tucking in second. Not feeling great at the top of the second climb and lost some places but kept going okay and was still within a couple of minutes of the leaders just before the two hour mark.

Tam messed up 6 so going into the last climb there was a pack of 3 of us, Tam, Jethro and me, in 5/6/7th. Jethro went left but the race line on the map went right and the one person we'd talked to before the race had said right was good, so we went right. Tam was heading for the wrong hill momentarily so his line confused me but I stuck to the race line on the map and it was not at all pleasant, very rough. When it got steep I felt horrendous and head was banging. Slowed to a complete crawl and could see quite a few people over taking me going on the faster left line. Sad plod in to the finish from there, lost about 15 mins to Tam in the last 5k, nice one.

Quite frustrating as seem to run poorly in every long race. Still, I'd like to get healthy over next couple of weeks then give Pentland Skyline a good crack.
