Saturday Jun 30

Note
decided not to do anything today, just sweating it out thinking about tomoz. there is not much that doesnt hurt in my body, I even have a toothache. possible the worst preparation ive ever had for a race, and it could be called an anti-taper.

Friday Jun 29

Run 2:50:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 5
Another spectacular run. Mont Blanc side of the valley. From Chamonix up to Mer de Glace. It was over a 1000m climb for this one, and view at the top (which is where the furnicular ends) was absolutely spectacular. HAVE to come back here. Then ran back to Plan d'Aguille (~2300m) where the gondola mid-point is. Its more or less a contour give or take a few hundred metres.

Then Andy and I went up to Aguille d'Midi (~3800m) on the gondola. Oh my god, this was scary. And people are nuts where they climb and go climbing. It was spectacular. Then headed back down to Plan, and ran back down to Chamonix.

1400m climb, 1200m descent (walked back the other bit)

Thursday Jun 28

Run 3:52:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance 872 OR
From Les Houches (1010m) on road to Chamonix, then up to Brevant (2517m) then back to Les Houches. Spectacular views across valley to Mont Blanc. Some running in snow, so so cool. Right ITB knee pain still, and this is not helping.

over 1600m climbing today, about 1200m descent.

Staying in cool hotel in Les Houches, more like an apartment really. Views and a verandah look straight out to Mont Blanc itself.

Wednesday Jun 27

Run 40:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Racer ST
Around old town of Montpellier. Nothing too exciting but it was pretty nice.

After the run caught a TGV back to Lyon which was almost an hour late, causing us to miss our last connection to Chamonix. Since it was the trains fault they took us as far as Chamberey and in a hotel. This ended up great because the hotel had Eurosport and we watched Buster win a 5km live against an unbelievable good field.

Cycling 2:00:00 [3]
Hired some cracker bikes from Montpellier. Rode to the coast and some chuch on a tiny hill with vineyards which as quite nice. Rode through some owns but I can't remember their name. Went for a swim too and it was freezing. Mediterranean was freezing!! Was a pretty funny ride. I had a much cooler bell than Andy.

Monday Jun 25

Run 1:20:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance 872 OR
Run around the free zoo in Montpellier. The Brown bears were swimming, the Big Red Kangaroos were lying around looking ripped off in their relatively small enclosure. Nice for a free zoo though, good for a run.

Sunday Jun 24

Run 30:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 5
just an easy jog along the river that goes through Montpellier. Not so great.

Saturday Jun 23

Adventure Race race (Citychase Paris) 4:24:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 5
Citychase Paris was a funny day. We don't understand French at all and all of it was in French.

Write more later, but we came 23rd. Not a bad result, but not great. Highlight must have included watching Andy eat cat food :)

Final will be held in Rome in September! Some photos etc from Paris at www.citychase.com

Friday Jun 22

Note
Funny night last night, it was Fete de la Music. Massive free festivals all over France, a shit load in Paris. Never seen so many people. Andy and I got verydrunk on not a lot. We got very lost too, didnt make it home til after 2am. It was a funny night.

This was followed by another recci day of Paris. Lots more sites, no running at all. Very very sore.

Thursday Jun 21

Run 1:20:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance 872 OR
Andy and I doing a recci of Paris. We spent about 8 hours walking or running around, but it was only 80min of running. I am so ridiculously sore, I forced the walking. Went to too many sites to mention.

Wednesday Jun 20

Run 56:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 5
Run through Ecclesfield woods from where G and K are staying. Very muddy, and I reckon they should rename this place to Dog woods or something, more dogs than people walking here. My knee (right ITB) pain is not good.

Tuesday Jun 19

Run 1:50:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance 872 OR
From Dore (south Sheffield) up into Peak District Moors then back through Eccelsfield woods. Pretty awesome run, scenic and just a cracker run. Reminded me of the Glasgow days. Knee (right) is really sore due to ITB pain, still from Geo. In fact the whole leg - upper calf and hamstring - feels pretty screwed up. Left achilles a little sore but ok. So by the end the run was interupted be several stretches and a couple of walks.
C • At least you can run ... 2
Run 30:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 5
Easy jog with some of the Sheffield orienteering boys after they did a track session.

Monday Jun 18

Note
Sheffield

staying with Kel and G. My bags never made it with me so I had very little gear and couldnt run in a Fell race that Kel went in (and won). Looked really fun too. G and I sat in a pub and drank a lager... oh life in the UK. Earlier in the day spent some time running around Sheffield with Kel. Even spent time with the bums in Sheffields Centrelink equivalent, only they have a about 50 more security staff on they we do.

Also got to pick G up from work and see where BOF spend some of their money... don't seem to waste too much there anyway.

Saturday Jun 16

Event: Jukola 2007

Note
Hong Kong

arrived at the hotel as it was getting dark, and not feeling particularly good so opted not to go for a run. Had a decent look around the southern Kowlooh disrict (I cant remember the name). Hong Kong actually seemed like a place worth coming back to. Even looked at the waterways and thought it would be good kayaking... I'm getting weird
C • Cant wait for a Holiday 3

Thursday Jun 14

Run 40:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 6
run with MAce in the rain. She was doing fartlek so i joined in. Felt pretty reasonable apart from a right leg tight ITB pain.

Wednesday Jun 13

Note
Havent trained at all since Geo. Actually felt like doing a bit today but been too busy preparing to head o/s on Saturday. Starting to feel good again although my arms still hurt (I cant really pick anything up of any significant weight) and my left big toe is numb for the third day in a row.

Adventure Race race (GeoQuest) 36:24:00 [3]
First GeoQuest, dont think it will be the last, I had a great time. We didnt have a particularly good race, thanks largely to the organisers which was a bit unfortunate. I think we lost just over 4 hours total due to the organisers incompetence. Sounds like I'm sore but I'm not that sore, there were a few disappointing aspects to the race though. But apart from those things we had a pretty good race as a team. I'm not sure where Prong got his times from, we certainly didnt race that long and I thought I was in his team. Furthermore, he spent quite a bit of time sleeping, some of which I was working even harder trying to hold him up and keep him moving.

Some of the highlighs:
Paddling in pretty big surf
Paddling with dolphins
Finding the waterfall which was no where near where it was marked on the map
Spending almost a whole leg walking in a river
Some really fun MTBing
Gloworms on the treks
Seeing cows swim
Feeling bloody strong almost the whole race
Eating food without sugar
Seeing sleepmonsters...
C • Sleep monsters? 8

MTB again, this time on Bruce Ridge and black mountain. Those single tracks on Bruce Ridge are fun.

Saturday Jun 2

Cycling 2:25:00 [3]
shoes: Specialized Mountain Sport
MTB around Majura Pine and Mt Ainslie.

Good ride, mainly trying to get more comfortable on Robbies bike cos I dont really feel comfortable on it at all. Did a pretty stupid thing though, in order to pack the bike in the car for the drive up to Canberra I took the front wheel off - then forgot to pack the wheel. So I borrowed Jules wheel for the ride.

Fun ride, felt pretty good and got suitably tired over the ride. Got more comfortable on it, especially on the single track stuff.

Friday Jun 1

Run 38:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Trance
4 x Osmonds, jog with Kyles
