Adventure Race race (Citychase Sydney) 2:42:00 [5]21.7 km (7:28 / km)
shoes: Brooks Racer ST
This is what the race organiser wrote in an email the evening after the race:

"Ben and Andy started brilliantly. First to the nearest ChasePoint and then they ran over the Sydney Harbour Bridge into the city. They quickly completed some, but not all, of the CBD ChasePoints, then jumped a train to Bondi, about 10k away. At this point their City Chase knowledge came into play. Helped, I assume by the input of many of their Canadian City Chase friends, they got the jump on the field. They arrived at the scavenger hunt with most of the items in their backpack!

Then they came unstuck!

They decide to run back into the city, a bloody long way, to the one ChasePoint to be avoided. A boot camp conducted at the bottom of a swimming pool. It took them about 25 mins. and was totally exhausting.

I ran into them back in the CBD at a crazy bar with Andy reading maps on the floor and Ben pole dancing with disgusting make up and a shocking dress!

At this point they decided to run to the one last ChasePoint they needed back over the bridge and a couple of miles from the finish line. Receiving reports via radio it seemed to me that they were in about 3rd or 4th position and not looking in great shape due to the amount of running they had done.

I can tell you that back at the finish line Nick, Danielle, India (City Chase Australias Event Manager) Chris ( City Chase Singapores Event Director) and Rose ( City Chase Singapores Event Manager) and I were not in good shape. We knew that there were 8 teams approaching with ChasePoint 10 completed but we had not idea who was in the lead.

The National Geographic video cameraman was ready, the Channel 9 cameraman was ready, The Sydney Harbour Bridge was is in the background ready for the classic Sydney shot. The tension was high.

And guess who came running in the back door, totally exhausted?

YES Ben & Andy are off to defend their world title in 2007!

The team who got second, a mixed team with a girl coming from Singapore (guess where she is off to in July), planned a brilliant course only to be run down by Ben & Andy a mile from the finish."

The report is not entirely truthful, but you get an idea. We did start well but had some misunderstandings with our phone/internet team at a critical point which changed our course significantly. We ran too much really, and by the end I was absolutely smashed as we pushed so hard.

The Nokia N95 is really cool, got talking to the Nokia dude and we may be able to get one. The dodgem cars after the race were hilarious.

Summer Series race 46:00 [4]*
spiked:25/27c shoes: Brooks Racer ST
lovely shoes.

Summer Series on Great North Walk (East Ryde). Had a good run, felt quickish and kept it up. Couple of errors towards the end, in part due to getting tired I think. Ran just under a minute too long. Ended up 550 points. Think I won, 2 weeks in a row - Andy should stay away more often.

Muscles hurt towards the end after running hard on the roads. The main news though is I didnt feel my achilles today, first time in over 10 weeks. Hoorah. Need a week of it pain free to feel totally comfortable about it though.
C • Good news about the achilles! 5

Tuesday Mar 13

Run 48:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 6
Run around Rookwood including 5 2min surges with 1min float. Not real hard but trying to slowly blow out some cobwebs. Felt like I was running ok.

Noticing a lot of muscle soreness (DOMS) after a few harder runs. This should go away soon but its a sure sign im not running fit.

Monday Mar 12

Run 32:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Trance
Easy Paul Mac loop. Feeling pretty good today.
