Quite happy with this :) did my job and handed over to HÃ¥kon on last leg in first. Bit scrappy early on but got into the map and enjoyed the cheeky sprint course mid way though.

Weather. WTF.

Solid enough start only losing a minimal amount of time. Started with my jacket on but by 4 the weather was lovely and I chucked it back into my bag.
Pretty awful start of the long route choice choosing to go back up the valley as I planned ahead... But then realised that the valley was quite far off line and not the best route. After I recovered after the start I think I did quite well on the leg, maybe physically not quite up to speed but executed well. (minute and a bit lost from my exit and maybe another 50s from fitness?)

From here I ran pretty well with very minimal time losses until #13 - I knew what I was doing but saw a lost Tom, putting me off a little and making me doubt myself and check around even though I knew what I was doing. 30s or so lost.

Then I was good until the storm hit. It hit on the way to #17. My course from here plummeted as I thought I was close enough to the finish to ride it out without a jacket. So in my mesh top and short sleeve thermal I got ripped to pieces by the vicious hail (still got the bruises on my arms!! :/) I completely lost the plot and made mistakes on the next 4 controls losing me about 4mins. So so so annoyed I tried to rage split into the finish and clocked some good final splits and a seriously slow run in.

Almost a good run but ruined by the weather. Ahh well.

Planned to take this at a little slower than full pace.

Strong good start only losing small bits of time (10s on the hilly leg :O), nothing major, until #5. Here I managed to lose at least 25s by not seeing the lower ride on the map(!?). Instead I charged up the hill and onto a higher path and took a very long route in. Apparently they might have been running out of ink in the printers or something because all the elite maps had a very light grey colour where an obvious black should have been.

Managed to lose another 30s up the very steep and muddy hill. My legs were burning and there were loads of old guys in my way :( very poor into #7 running along a small indistinct path before going up onto the proper path before slowly, slowly going into the forest and back around to the control (+20s).

Dodgy route into 10 by leaving the control way off the line to hit a path. Could and should have been a lot straighter here (+20s).

Was alright around the next few controls until I hit #15. Knew I was running slightly left of the line but when I hit the river I panicked for some reason when the other side wasn't what I expected - managed to make it match with further down the river so ran left.... Should have ran right. (and I should have known because I aimed off........+1min5).

Still feeling panicky and worried that Bigby was close behind I completely missed #16 by about 42s.... He caught me up here.
Seeing Aidan gave me a new focus and I won the next split with him trailing behind. Started to pull away over the next few controls and cruised into the finish.

Good performance technically.
(though now I look into it I see I made plenty of mistakes...)
Physically felt very poor, slow and sluggish.

Made two small mistakes on my RC to #2 by missing the route I'd planned and having to turn around and get back on track. Lost about 10s.
Slight time loss to #3 by not seeing the underpass under the steps as a better route. 3s lost.
Lost another 3s to #6 where I didn't realise I could run over the grass.

Lost about 6s by not going straight under the building on my route to #7, instead taking the longer, slower, more steppy route.
Made another 7s mistake by not going over the grass again (same as on my way to #3)

Huge mistake with my routechoice to #17 losing about 13s by going through a zigzaggy section and jumping a fence instead of taking the similar distance route to the south without any of these annoying obstacles.

Managed to muck up two of the last routes on the course as well which was pretty annoying - the first I decided to try take the route that looked shorter but infact had a pretty annoying extra bit I had to run around (+10s) and then finally by not jumping the crossable wall and running pretty far around to get to the control!! Think I was in an end of course panick! (+8s).

Considering I felt seriously seriously slow today happy with the result, winning the m18E but a long, long way behind the faster boys. Think I lost time on more routes that in the past I would usually have been fast enough to get away with!

Jog around the braids then into a sprint course at KB. Felt very slow and sluggish. Some mistakes. Some poor poor RC's. Not fussed. Warm down home.
