http://obasen.orientering.se/winsplits/online/en/d...Considering the last time I ran over 100mins was back at Jaettemilen (November) going into this I was pretty worried about crashing and burning out hard....
Unfortunately we hadn't been able to stay with the front and faster boys so I was sent about about half an hour down.
Started really slowly trying to find people to run around with - nobody really around so just started to plod around with another guy. Got caught by a really fast runner on the way to #2 - I was getting bad orienteering vibes from him and it turns out I was right as he helped us miss the control, then fly of searching for it in the complete wrong direction. I managed to work out where we were as I'd been kinda navigating into this and eventually got to it after the initial panic! (2.5mins)
This mistake might have been okay because suddenly there was lots of people in a group and we started the huuuge 4.5km leg to #4. Slowly I began to hate everyone in my group... The guys at the front had no idea of a good route choice (or so I thought) and would just generally annoy me. Not entirely sure why but I was hating on them pretty bad. Every time we hit a path the pace would lurch up and slowly break runners off the back of the group... By the time we eventually hit #4 there was just 5 of us and that was how it stayed from here. Think we took a pretty weird and bad route choice but it seems an okay split time more or less. 3.5mins down on a 28 minute leg though to must have been alright.
We made a pretty big mistake to #5 where we just missed the control and then hit some big cliffs just behind it. Pretty technical section of the map and nobody really knew where we were. Lost about 2.5mins.
Next control we had a weird exit but generally pretty good through the next few. Interesting route on the next long leg that actually was okay but I personally would have hit the path hard around rather than straight.
Considering we went straight on the leg before I was surprised the train decided to have a leg off and take the path around to #11. Straight was definitely faster but I think they wanted the time to think, take gels and to chill before the final section... The final section?? Woah that went fast (1h 20mins). Pretty pretty surprised to hit this and still be feeling pretty good?! On we went with a nice pace increase. Solid split time to this, we pushed pretty hard.
Solid enough route to the next one, again opting for the maybe easier but slower route down the side of the yellow. Enjoyed this bit of the course. And then all of a sudden we were into the last couple of km and 5 controls. Still feeling very fresh. Wiggled around them all okay with no major problems except on the way to #16 where outta nowhere I hit a huge bridge and despite knowing exactly where I was and where I was going I felt the need to find the bridge and work out where I was. Lost about 40s here. Was pushing also. Felt good, picked of the last few controls and into the finish still feeling unbelievably fresh!! Solid stuff - happy with completing my first långa natten ;D though it was a shame I wasn't able to hit one of the faster trains. Tiomila is so fun though!!!
Great experience. Bring on jukola! ;)
Still feeling fresh ;) just after I finished.
