Almost didn't come today and spent most of the regretting the fact that I'd come. Finally decided I may as well warm up... Then may as well start.. Then may as well finish.

I survived which I'm happy about :) Actually didn't end up as bad as I'd feared (though also not quite as well as an in form me would have hoped). Think the possibility of freddie beating me to 6km (where his course finished, we started at the same time) was playing quite heavily on my mind. Right from the start I didn't start as slowly as I'd planned/hoped to but still was sitting in quite nicely and surviving the early stages. The pain started quite early on in this race, already after the first km (2:58) I was hurting a bit.
Up the first hill was so so grim, freddie, Trystan, everyone I wanted to beat seemed to be ahead of me and not coming back any time soon. On the second lap freddie started to die and to slowly fall backwards, this was quite motivating because I can deal with people beating me but freddie, that was not going to be allowed to happen. Caught the back of his little pack, recovered and then tried to put in an effort to drop him and thankfully it was successful because otherwise I would have been in a bad place mentally!
Basically the rest of the race was me pushing quite hard to get away from freddie, realising that actually I'm doing quite alright and then trying not to get caught again by some of the people I overtook as they came back strong.
Annoying to so almost have a really good race - I feel like I'm running well at the moment but it didn't quite work out today, not sure I'll make the scotland team after that which was one of my big aims this season :((
Good fun but yeah I was coughing quite a lot after, will need to keep it really easy over the next week or so.
