http://www.vienna2006.com/?p=mauerresults Had an ok run. Lost 1.5mins in first 2 controls having difficulty adjusting to 1:10 again, but then ran ok. Physically felt fast and pushed hard on some legs.
| C • is ecmo there for the masters?... 2 | ||
Thursday Jun 29 | ||
| Orienteering (Vienna Prologue) 45:00 [4]*** | ||
| Prater- City park on the edge of Danube River. Very flat, many tracks and depressions (bomb craters). Didn't bother entering, just borrowed a map and ran. Good fun, but a bit over it by the end. | ||
| Orienteering (Kostendorf) 40:00 [3] | ||

| Arrived in Zurich and watched the last 30mins of Aus vs Italy football being replayed in the airport. From what i saw we kicked arse and were robbed. Lukas Neill keep your head up mate.
Picked up hire car and drove into Austria, thru some mountain passes and into Germany. Visited famous castle, King Ludwig 2nd, then drove back into Austria and stayed night with Guenter and Gertrude Auer. Very long day, wasn't tired until 10pm but then struggled

Sunday Jun 25 | ||
| Road Cycling (Akuna Bay) 2:00:00 [3] | ||
| shoes: Specialized MTB | ||
| with Dari, Prong and Mounty. Smashed the hills, felt good but cold air on lungs wasn't so good. First time i've ridden Dari's old yellow cannondale, soon to become mine. | ||
Saturday Jun 24 | ||
| Kayak (Fisherman's beach) 1:40:00 [3] | ||
| with Mounty on his Mark2 surf ski. Good fun, fast on the downwinds catching runs. No real wave surfing (didn't want to smash on the shorebreak). | ||
Friday Jun 23 | ||
| Run (Two creeks/Little Diggers) 1:00:00 [2] | ||

| Event: Paddy Pallin Rogaine | ||
| Orienteering race (Paddy Pallin Rogaine) 5:55:00 [4]** | ||
| shoes: Salomon XA 3D Pro | ||
| with Andy. Pretty cold morning (as usual) in Wingello but got warmed up quick enough. Planned a route that was far too long (as usual) and came back via the car 2hrs in, sat down, ate some lollies and totally overhauled our route. Spent more time in the easier flatter pine sections and less in the steeper valleys to the east. Good move in the end and we picked up and extra 50points near the end to finish with 5mins to spare.
I felt good for first 3hrs, tired a bit and left knee got sore from 3-5hrs, but came home strongly with a fast last hour. Not much competition this year. Won with 1380pts, second 1120 (i think). Hope to pull up good and not get injured like last year.

| Run (Two Creeks/Little Diggers) 54:00 [3] | ||
| shoes: old Asics 2100 | ||
| with Ben and Glenn. Never intended to run, but got talked into it. Felt ok on the flats, but weak and tired on downhills. Hopefully will remove some of the puffiness from my legs and feet. | ||

| slept:6.0 (rest day) | ||
| Good BBQ breakfast followed by Geoquest presentation and lots of packing then long drive home. Body in pretty good shape. | ||
| Note | ||
| Happy with 5th place. Now I have a 6th, 7th and 5th. Might be a few years yet before the win. Good team vibe, and if race was longer we would have only done better. Shame about the 2hrs+ lost on navigation...

Sunday Jun 11 | ||
| MTB race (Geoquest) 2:00:00 [3]20 km (6:00 / km) | ||
| shoes: Specialized MTB | ||
| Split Leg- Damon and i picked up 3 controls on the bike, while Prong and Kim attempted to get 2 on foot. I was still feeling strong when we finished. Had to wait for 30mins at the campfire til Prong got back (he hadn't found any). | ||
| Trek race (Geoquest) 3:00:00 [3]12 km (15:00 / km) | ||
| shoes: Salomon XA 3D Pro | ||
| Split leg part 2. Started off this leg feeling good. Found first control ok, taking it easy thru the dodgy tracks. Started to tire up long, very tough creek. Some how did a 180 near saddle and headed back the way we just came. Got to control again before realising. Wasted about an hour. I was just shattered now. Would have skipped control but Damon convinced me to keep going. Finally got back after sunrise. Not food or drink for 3hrs. Now in 7th place 3hrs behind leaders. | ||
| MTB race (Geoquest) 36:00 [3]7 km (5:09 / km) | ||
| shoes: Specialized MTB | ||
| Popped a NODOZE and rolled down the hill and into camp. Compulsory 20mins stop. Use 10mins looking for underware. I was shatterred.
| ||
| MTB race (Geoquest) 3:52:00 [3]42 km (5:31 / km) +600m 5:09 / km | ||
| shoes: Specialized MTB | ||
| After the nodoze, large flat white and coke in the car back to start of leg 3, i was feeling awesome. I worked quite hard on this leg, and was tired by the large neverending climb at the end. Passed Tangerine into 6th with 2nd fastest split. | ||
| Trek (Geoquest) 3:05:00 [3]9 km (20:33 / km) | ||
| shoes: Salomon XA 3D Pro | ||
| This was run around a group a big mountains, big climbs and steep decents. Snuck arround a team and moved into 5th. 3rd best split | ||
| MTB race (Geoquest) 1:29:00 [3]22 km (4:03 / km) | ||
| shoes: Specialized MTB | ||
| Ride off the mountains down to Nambucca river. Still in 5th. | ||
| Kayak (Geoquest) 4:02:00 [3]22 km (11:00 / km) | ||
| shoes: Specialized MTB | ||
| Started this kayak on sundown. Feeling tired like the rest of the team, but better when i started talking. First half in a windy river, 2nd in fast flowing tidal river. Included 1.5km portage. | ||
| Trek race (Geoquest) 2:17:00 [3]12.0 mi (11:25 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Salomon XA 3D Pro | ||
| Final Leg- Support crew told us there was a team only 10min behind so we scuttled off on the final trek. Took a bloody long time. I was cactus and had to hand over the map to Prong before i fell of the cliff and took the control card with me. I saw teams all over the place, but they were only 'sleepmonsters'. Very happy to finish 2 mins before midnight. | ||
Saturday Jun 10 | ||

| Tubing race (Geoquest) 39:00 [3]1.5 km (26:00 / km) | ||
| shoes: Teva X1 | ||
| Cold,dirty river, then across fast river. Pretty slow waiting for others. | ||
| Kayak race (Geoquest) 1:03:00 [4]10 km (6:18 / km) | ||
| shoes: Teva X1 | ||
| Paddle along a river. made up some time as teams tried to portage their boats but got stuck in mud. I had to work harder to keep up this time. | ||
| Tubing (Geoquest) 1:25:00 [3]5 km (17:00 / km) | ||
| shoes: Teva X1 | ||
| Mainly walking thru mud flats with a bit of swimming in between. Again pretty easy pace. | ||
| MTB race (Geoquest) 2:15:00 [3]30 km (4:30 / km) | ||
| shoes: Specialized MTB | ||
| MTB rogaine section. No real problems with nav. some small over grown tracks. Started raining and got dark 3/4 of way round. Picked up a few places and moved into 8th with 5th best split. | ||
| Trek race (Geoquest) 3:19:00 [3]15.0 mi (13:16 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Salomon XA 3D Pro | ||
| Rogaine collecting 7controls. Got confused early on due to poor maping of tracks/lack of mapping! Recovered will to post fasted split but we (unfortunately) used our miss a check point card. Moved into 4th. | ||
| MTB 4:28:00 [3]24 km (11:10 / km) +500m 10:07 / km | ||
| shoes: Specialized MTB | ||
| This was a MTB leg to the bottom of Mt Yarrahapinni, then a 500m vertical bike carry through this rainforest. Worst thing was we didn't know if there was meant to be a track. Caught MillieBerghaus a(moved into 3rd) and they slowed us down a bit (and pulled out at the top of the hill) Very hard work, about 90mins of fighting vines and climbing logs. | ||
