Monday Jun 30

Orienteering (Brno) 55:00 [4]10 km (5:30 / km)
shoes: Salomon XT Wings
Urban Sprint-O training with Kathryn and Simon in Brno. 3x10-15min courses with about 3mins walk recovery.
Lunchtime was really busy and we had to dodge pedestrians, dogs, trams, cars, electrified buses etc so getting to stop speed was harder than expected. I felt much better than expected and quite enjoyed myself.
Spent the rest of the arvo/evening looking around Brno, watching Indiana Jones and eating dinner with Shep and Jo.

Sunday Jun 29

Note
(rest day)
Kath, Simon, Shep and Jo were running the Czech/Fin Long distance trials today, but I decided that was far too much effort for me. Thought about going for a ride but that never eventuated.

Saturday Jun 28

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]9 km (6:40 / km)
Familiarisation training with Kath, Shep, Jo and Simon. Terrain has some pretty crappy bits. My legs felt better than expected but didn't want to run any longer.

Friday Jun 27

Run (Prostejov) 39:00 [3]7.5 km (5:12 / km)
slept:4.0 shoes: Salomon XT Wings
Nice jog with Kathryn from Uchmelu Pension in Prostejov, Czech Republic.
Legs felt much better than expected and the forest trail along the river was really nice.

Thursday Jun 26

Run 30:00 [2]5.6 km (5:21 / km)
shoes: Salomon XT Wings
Stopped for a jog on my route from Prague to Vienna at some random lake in the mountains. A nice area but there were lots of fences and camping grounds that stopped me from running along the lake edge.
Legs pretty heavy, but no injuries so that's a plus.
Had the best Wiener Schnizel in the local town before crossing into Austria.

Sunday Jun 15

Note
(rest day)
Race preparation, including kayaking and ropes. Followed by briefing and great meal. Up to 1.30am doing maps.

Saturday Jun 14

Event: The Turas Adventure Race

Note
(rest day)
Hello,
Just a quick note to remind you of my next upcoming race- The Turas Adventure Race. It is a 5 day race in the Cork and Kerry Counties in Ireland and starts on Monday.

I?m racing with Richard Ussher, Elina Ussher and Gordon Walker in Team AdventuresportNZ (or it could be called Team New Zealand). There is another all Australian team racing, Peak Adventure, captained by Jarad Kohler so be sure to keep an eye out for them too.

There will be live updates, including GPS tracking on the race website- www.theturas.com

I?d like to thank a few people who have been a great support in the lead up to the race:
Kyle and Craig Arnold from Blackheart- thanks for all your help
Nic Naes from Fiskars Brands- thanks for all the SILVA compasses and lights
Salomon for some great shoes and clothes
Mark Geary for all his tips on Ireland

I arrived in Dublin a few days ago and spent a few days driving down to Cork. It?s been great to see a bit of the countryside, but difficult to enjoy myself with the race looming.

Cheers,
Rob

Friday Jun 13

Note
(rest day)
Spent most of the day in Cork, on the internet and shopping for the race. Looked like a nice town but unfortunately didn't have much time for sightseeing.

Thursday Jun 12

Strength work (Galtimore Mountains) 1:10:00 [3]14 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro (white)
In the Galtimore Mountains on route to Mallow. Nice hill to climb with good views, funny looking sheep, soft wet ground. Felt pretty good and knee was ok.

Wednesday Jun 11

Note
slept:2.0 (rest day)
arrived in Dublin in afternoon rather than morning after a very delayed flight from New York. Picked up hire car and drove south to Wexford and camped the night.

Tuesday Jun 10

Run (Queens, New York) 40:00 [2]8 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro (white)
felt very tired and unmotivated

Monday Jun 9

Note
(rest day)
Another long day of sightseeing in New York

Sunday Jun 8

Run long (NYC Central Park) 1:45:00 [3]20 km (5:15 / km)
slept:7.0
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1970113
From Drew's on East 85th St, to Central Park. Did a full lap. This place is awesome, even better than I expected. Plenty of variety in terrain, forest, park, tracks, roads, grass, lakes etc. Started at 8 and it was still very hot and humid. Legs was ok sometimes but very heavy at other times.
Also plenty of people about. 5th avenue was being blocked off for the National Puerto Rico Day Parade. This thing is huge, more police than I have ever seen. Seriously. Apparently Puerto Ricans are the largest ethnic group in NYC.

Saturday Jun 7

Run (Lower Manhattan) 1:10:00 [2]10 km (7:00 / km)
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1970195
a sightseeing day in New York City. City Hall, Paragon Sports Shop- this place is awesome, Woolworth building, Battery Park, Staten Island Ferry. Then got changed and went for run along the Hudson River Park, World Financial Center, Ground Zero- pretty disappointing, a big hole in the ground and nothing to look at. South Street Seaport- a great pier overlooking Brooklyn Bridge. Then City Hall, and over Brooklyn Bridge and back. It was 6.30pm and still 94degrees on the sign I saw. Then walked through Chinatown, and had dinner in Little Italy. Then subway up to Drew's place on East 85th St. Great day, and really like NY.

Friday Jun 6

Note
