Orienteering race (Ultimax 5-days) 45:39 [5]7.87 km (5:48 / km)
slept:5.0 shoes: VJ Twister
Day 5- Reverse Order start. These start orders are a waste of fucking time. Lost 20secs on #1 going to check the other control that lots of people punched. Then went really hard on the next few legs because i didn't want Simon Uphill to catch me. Got sight of Ecmo going to 9 and pushed harder to catch him. But when i got close i relaxed too much and let myself feel tired. Didn't end up passing him until going t0 16. Got caught by Olav, Jules and Carsten at 17 and had no hope of staying with them. Was now just stuggling to stay in front of Ecmo. Really tired going to 20, 21. Pushed hard out of 22 to gap Ecmo a bit.
A pretty good run, but need more tempo training because i struggled towards the end of the race, just like day 2.

Day 4- Gumble- Mini classic set by Jules.
Got sucked of line to 2nd and lost 30sec. Caught Michael Adams who sprinted from the control like a cut snake. I followed him but we overan 3 and lost another 20secs. Didn't plan 4th control and ended up wasting a bit of time before cutting left to run up creek. At 6 i had amassed a large pack (primarily kiwis) and decided i would much rather run on my own. Ran hard to 7 hoping to hit it, i did and sprinted up hill towards 8. Punched it out of sight, but was tired climbing up big hill. Ran well on the rest of the long leg (stoked to win a long split). Caught heaps of girls on the next few short legs. Had a gel and was surprised how tired i felt already after 44mins. Stuggled up hill to 14, thru saddle and attacked difficult control from right side of hill. Happy to hit it. Next few were ok, but again very tired to 17. Found Shep had given up at the control. No surprise. Overran 18 which was annoying, and lot time at 20 too. Unfortunatly choose to run slowly over the saddle for the 3rd time going to 22 and lost more time. Last few controls were ok.
Looking at the splits i didn't realise my 2nd half was so bad. Definately tired on the hills, but was losing time without even noticing it. Good tough course Jules. Great run from Olav Lundanes.
Run warm up/down 1:00:00 [2]
20mins warm-up, and 40mins getting even warmer after the course collecting controls and water bottles.

Friday Jan 5

Run 30:00 [3]
slept:4.0 shoes: Asic 2110
Didn't race today- just spent the whole time feeling hungover and trying not to get sunburnt at the start. A bit or running around and an hour or two digging bloody toilet holes. Very tired.

Ultimax 5-days- Day 2. Mass Start.
Holy shit how fast was that first leg! Well according to my GPS i did the first km in 3.27 and i was far from the front. Started to catch up the leaders going to 2 and 3. Decided to make a move going to 4 but got sucked to the left by all the front runners making a mistake. Tried to catch Shep and Carsten going to 5 and 6, but all the guys in between dropped off and they were out of sight. At the front of 2nd pack to the end of the loop. Rune caught up going to 10 and we weren't clean for a few controls. Rune ran away, and when the course turned back uphill i was spent. Basically gave up, lost 10spots on the climb back up the hill. Very disappointed that i didn't fight more, but had no strength. 13th.

Event: Sydney Parks Orienteering Series Race #1

Orienteering race (Sydney Park Series) 13:24 [5]****
spiked:14/14c shoes: Asic 2110
Race 1- Ball's Head.
I had already pre-run this course a few days ago, but decided i'd have a hit out on map memory. Ran ok, but didn't feel too fast (not much of a warm up). Disappointed and surprised to be beaten by 2 secs by Patrik Karlsson of Sweden- very impressive run by JWOC silver medalist.
Great turnout- almost 100 competitors!
