Walking 4:20:15 [0] 15.68 km (16:36 / km) +2098m 9:57 / km

Epic adventure up Pizzo di Vogorno (2442m) with Tim, Tommy and Anni.

First hour was a bit boring as I went back to the car to change shoes as my foot was sore in inov8s so had to catch the others up.

Such an awesome track with abandoned stone cottages appearing all over the place. Got a bit sketchy when we reached the ridge at the top as there was quite a bit of snow about. I was slipping all over the place in my normal running shoes and we had to do a fair bit of rock climbing to reach the top.
Then had so much fun running down a big stretch of snow. There were streams and rocks underneath so every now and then we'd sink up to our knees and fall flat on our faces. Path continued down through some gorgeous beech forest and past even more stone cottages before ending with some lovely waterfalls and gorge.

Followed this with a lovely dinner at the Aussies place in their amazing old stone village. Sitting outside in the sunshine till 9.30pm at a stone picnic table with vines overhead. Gorgeous :)

Note
(rest day)

90mins walking on the long model map. Stunning views from the top over Bellinzona and the EOC long area.
Left quad doms are sooo bad. Struggling to walk properly as my leg just doesn't function! Downhills are the worst. Think this rivals Grasmere for some of the worst doms I've ever had.

Watching the middle final. Really wished I could have run it...course/terrain looked awesome.

Running 43:41 [3] 6.95 km (6:17 / km) +260m 5:18 / km
shoes: Mizuno Enigma 3

Nice run with Tim from our house in Rivera. Out along a small road/gravel track then back along a nice single track. Quads absolutely dying on the downhills after yesterday.

EOC Middle Qual - Carona
20th

Finished feeling really happy with this run. Obviously disappointed not to qualify for the final but for the most part i think i ran as well as I could and was hitting all the controls spot on.

So close to qualifying for most of the race, in 14th place with 30secs to spare at control 9. Then going into the last technical control of the course just absolutely hit the wall. Head was just completely dizzy and took a terrible route right underneath the cliffs which involved some steep climbing and lost over a minute on this leg. Had already started to wobble on the track leg to 9 and even had to walk a bit despite it being flat, so think I was just at my physical limit.

Middle model. Forest is absolutely lush! Absolute orienteering paradise around controls 37, 38 and 39. Sadly I don't think tomorrow will have anything like that part.
Right achilles very tight and sore to touch.
