Fun long run in the Pentlands

Caught the bus out to Penicuik, then ran through some lovely single track forest paths to get to the hills. Went exploring a new path that goes up Fala Knowe and around to the Carnethy/Turnhouse saddle. Then along the skyline route towards Allermuir. Legs did not appreciate the second long climb up the gravel track.

Tried to practice going faster on the downhill from Turnhouse but fell over near the top and was a pansy thereafter.

Thought my fun was all over and that it was just a downhill trudge along the gravel road to the bus stop, then discovered this fun sheep trod that skirts around the back of Allermuir past Green Craig and ends up at Swanston golf course. So many trods I never knew existed...must go exploring more often!

Went the long way home from work via Dalkeith/Eskbank/Polmont as I knew I wouldn't do anything if I went home first. Ended up being a really lovely sunny evening after the afternoon rain shower.
New bike is super speedy also...a solid 12mins faster than last time I did this loop! Although I was pushing harder and found a couple of shortcuts but still it's so much nicer to ride than the old one.

I really enjoy this loop. Has a bit of everything - coastline, rivers, farmland, old railway paths, squirrels. :)

Meadows compass exercise. Good opportunity to try out my Str8 compass and I needed a run anyway.

Mostly pretty good...either hitting the control or one tree away. Made a real mess of number 3 on the first course though - never actually found the control. Always seem to mess up that area getting confused with the seats and fence bend.

Body took a long time to warm up. Felt pretty broken for the first loop, then able to move more freely in the second.
