World Cup Sprint Relay - Genova Nervi
14th Nation (28th overall)

Me, Jo, Tim, Briana

A bit nervous as the last time I ran 1st leg on a hilly, park course like this was in Prague and that did not go very well at all. I started really well and punched my gaffle at #1 in 3rd. Shortest gaffle meant I hit the common control at #2 before the pack converged on it and it ended up being knocked onto the ground with people scrambling around to punch. I exited the park in 2nd behind Gemperle which was super cool!!

Punched the gaffle at #6 just behind Pia. I knew I wanted to head right on the long leg, but panicked a bit that I had missed a trap as the others were heading straight so I sort of followed for a bit as I didn't want to mess up the entire race by getting caught out. Should've backed myself as the route was definitely the best from my control. Eventually did go right with a few others, but I had missed the shortest route through the top gap in the wall.

Fine through the next section and through the run-through in 13th (+14secs). Started losing ground on the uphill to #13, then missed the faster left routechoice to #14 so dropped down the pack a little bit. Hadn't fully planned ahead to #16 but left looked better than running down the staircase to the right. Managed to find the sneaky gap in the wall to get over the bridge, then just zoomed down the hill to the finish. Finished in 15th (+47sec on Gemperle, but only +20sec to the front of the chase pack.

Solid runs from Jo and Tim had us in 12th (8th nation) after 3 legs, so very promising ahead of WOC!!

World Cup Sprint - Genova Voltri
41st

One of the most fun world cup sprints I've done. Tim and I had been telling our younger team members that they could expect Sprint the Bay/Park World Tour type courses from the course setter (Alessio Tenani) so it was cool hearing afterwards that he had taken inspiration from running these events.

Despite geeking pretty well for the park section, I was quite hesitant for the first 3 controls. Annoyed to have missed the route to 5 as I knew about the straight route, but missed a small turnoff and ended up on the zigzags by mistake. Good navigation for the rest of the course, but I really struggled physically on the steps and uphills.

Cool to see Tim come in 7th after such a long time off with injury.
