Note
(rest day)

Lazy rainy day... Legs quite ok after yesterday but did not find enough motivation to do more than a walk to a cinema :)

Foamrolled the calf and the tightness is almost gone. Will probably aim for something fast tomorrow...

World Super Long Orienteering Championships Newcastle Edition

Bert has set a challenging 23km course spanning over 8 or so maps on the other side of the Sugarloaf NP main ridge where the 12hr rogain was a few weeks back.

It was probably the course that caused quite a few DNS's and later also DNF's with only me, Andy and Bert finishing the whole thing and Lee finishing the SLWOC AS version.

The first bit was really tough, including some steep gullies, lots of contours and a very thick and thorny bush. Second half was a lot more runnable but saw Josh and Macey pulling out and from about 32nd control also Bert has lost some steam. So at the end it was a sprint finish between me and Andy which I narrowly won (although I was a point winner already two pointed controls before the finish) and therefore can humbly call myself a WORLD CHAMPION.

My left calf have not quite appreciated the sprint finish after 29km and is pretty tight now. On the other hand, the big toe nail survived :)

Nutrition: 0.5 musli bar and 2.5l of water

Wanted to test my toe on trails so did a short tempo-ish run from Mq Uni to Artamon on LCNP trails via Weir and Golf Course. Despite the long run yesterday felt pretty strong, even managed to steal a CR on the long Ferndale Park hill, despite it was already dark and I ran with a headtorch. The toe was ok but felt weird later at home. Will have it rest on Friday and see if I can get through the world champs on Sat...

Got birthday leave at work - great opportunity for a long planned run from La Perouse to Watsons Bay. And even better, I managed to convince two kind gentlemen to run with me - however I cannot name as they were officially on offsite meetings. So technically I was running alone. But thanks guys.

Highlight of the day was a discovery of a brand new track around Malabar headland (approx 3km long). Lowlight my big toe nail which was giving me significant grief towards the end...

Surprisingly good energy levels - ran it on 1 muesli bar, 1 can of coke and less than 1.5l of water.

easy jog to Mrs. Macquarie. Big toe nail still a bit painful - guess the trampolines and a dude stepping on it in a club didn't help. Hopefully will be numb by Wednesday for the planned long run
