Thursday Jul 31

Mountain Biking 38:30 [2] 12 km (3:12 / km)
Camdenton, MO

Paved city streets around town while my car was being serviced.
Note
Nice evening with the family at Applebee's to celebrate my mother-in-law's 80th birthday.

Wednesday Jul 30

Note
(rest day)
KC work day.

Tuesday Jul 29

Other (Construction) 1:00:00 [2]
Cottage Garden/Landscaping

Ditto yesterday.

Monday Jul 28

Other (Construction) 1:00:00 [2]
Cottage Garden/Landscaping

Dug trenches for edging (no easy task in this terrain). Use of rock bar and humid conditions made this quite a workout.

Sunday Jul 27

Trail 1:05:06 [3] 6.4 mi (10:09 / mi)
Honey Run Trail @ Lake of the Ozarks State Park

Ran from the slabs up the connector to the trail head then back down. Thought I'd get out early and beat the heat (even went shirtless, scary) but the humidity won so I didn't tack on the north loop as I had originally intended.
Other (Construction) 2:00:00 [1]
Cottage Garden

Mostly arbor stuff.

Saturday Jul 26

Note
(rest day)
Slept in, went to the farmer's market, the nursery, and Lowe's. Still working on the cottage garden.

Friday Jul 25

Mountain Biking 59:39 [2] 20 km (2:59 / km)
Linn Creek, MO

Rode the paved streets of Linn Creek as the XC kids ran.

Thursday Jul 24

Mountain Biking 50:39 [3] 8.0 mi (6:19 / mi)
Post Office Road @ Ha Ha Tonka State Park

Rode on hilly, gravel route as XC kids ran.

Wednesday Jul 23

Road 27:40 [3] 3.0 mi (9:13 / mi)
Dry Hollow Road @ Ha Ha Tonka State Park

Just a run to get the legs going again. Kind of sluggish and kind of tired (see pace/mi).

Tuesday Jul 22

Note
(rest day)
Feel better. I'll get started again tomorrow.

Monday Jul 21

Note

Lake Perry, Lawrence, KS

2nd O section.
Canoe 40:00 [4] 2.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
Dusk2Dawn AR
Lake Perry, Lawrence, KS

Last canoeing leg. Oh, by the way, we don't have to go to CP 19 now (but I already did !!!).
Orienteering 23:00 [3] 1.0 mi (23:00 / mi)
Dusk2Dawn AR
Lake Perry, Lawrence, KS

Trek back to TA.
Walk 24:00 [1]
Dusk2Dawn AR
Lake Perry, Lawrence, KS

TA
Mountain Biking 4:41:00 [4] 35.0 mi (8:01 / mi)
Dusk2Dawn AR
Lake Perry, Lawrence, KS

Mostly roads, a little single track near the end. Flat just before last control. Figured fix and ride was similar to pushing it in so I pushed it in. Humidty was really draining but never felt like I couldn't keep going.

Saturday Jul 19

Orienteering 31:00 [4] 2.0 mi (15:30 / mi)
Dusk2Dawn AR
Lake Perry, Lawrence, KS

Trek to canoes.
Canoe 58:00 [4] 3.0 mi (19:20 / mi)

Canoeing on Lake Perry.
Orienteering 1:46:00 [4] 4.0 mi (26:30 / mi)
Dusk2Dawn AR

O section on the biking trails. Picked up CP19 to save on canoeing time later (approved option).

Friday Jul 18

Walk 30:00 [1]
Behind the mower.

Getting ready for tomorrow's AR (Dusk 2 Dawn, Lake Perry, Lawrence, KS). Going solo.
C • Dusk to dawn 3

Thursday Jul 17

Mountain Biking 20:00 [2] 5 km (4:00 / km)
Abbreviated neighborhod loop. Just enough to get the blood pumping and break a sweat. Followed this up with some light weights.
Note
Drove to Little Rock so my son could attend a concert by one of his favorite Christian Rock groups, Skillet. Had a great time. We drove back afterwards and got home around 430 AM Friday. Call it time acclimation for this weekend's AR (9 PM to 9 AM).

Wednesday Jul 16

Note
(rest day)
Another day that got away from me. Guess I'm tapering for this weekend's AR.

Tuesday Jul 15

Note
(rest day)
Faimly Trip to Silver Dollar City

I'm hoarse from the roller coasters.
C • Back on AP 3

Monday Jul 14

Mountain Biking 40:30 [3] 15 km (2:42 / km)
Camdenton City Park

Rode the park 4/10 mile oval while the XC kids ran (no added weight).
Weight Lifting 30:00 [2]
Bowflex in the Garage

Various upper body reps.

Sunday Jul 13

Pack 35:00 [3] 3.0 mi (11:40 / mi)
Honey Run Trail @ Lake of the Ozarks State Park

Ran from the trailhead down the connector to the slabs. All in daylight. Wore a 17 lb pack.
Pack 57:00 [4] 4.6 mi (12:23 / mi)
Honey Run Trail @ Lake of the Ozarks State Park

From the slabs around the north loop. Mostly dusk to dark (what was that thing that slithered across my path near the end?). Wore a 15 lb pack (left fluids at the slabs).
Note
July 10, 1996 (aka "The Night of the Copperheads")

That slithering thing (see above) reminded me of the time we were camping on our property here in the Ozarks when one night we stepped outside to enjoy the evening only to find not one, not two, but at least three Copperhead snakes out on patrol. Apparently this time of year just after dusk is prime hunting time. Since the cabin was not snake tight, we left for a motel that night.

For reference, refer to this year's MDC Natural Events Calendar, July 18 (the reference is to rattlesnakes but hey, they are both vipers).
Walk 32:00 [2] 2.0 mi (15:59 / mi)
Anderson Hollow Road in Lake of the Ozarks State Park

Now that it was dark and the going on the trail was slow (and slithery), I opted for the road.

Oh, almost forgot, I saw a nice Copperhead crossing the road out on an evening hunt. We were about 4 or so feet apart when we noticed each other (or at least when I noticed him/her). Go figure.

Saturday Jul 12

Weight Lifting 30:00 [2]
Bowflex in the Garage

Various upper body reps.
Note
Sturng 100' of chicken wire above my Mon's existing fence to keep them from flying over and getting eaten by resident vermin (foxes. racoons).

Followed that up with continued task of setting columns for our garden arbor.

These two activities added to the days training made for one tired boy.
Mountain Biking 41:21 [3] 15 km (2:45 / km)
Neighborhood Loop

No added weight and reinflated tire made for a quicker ride.

Friday Jul 11

Note
(rest day)
Note sure I needed it, just happened to be one of those days where time got away from me.

Thursday Jul 10

Mountain Biking 50:19 [3] 15 km (3:21 / km)
Neighborhood Loop

Wore a 20 lb pack (rear tire was low so extra resistance added to the effort).
Walk 30:00 [1]
Behind the mower.
C • Now this is an elegant entry. 2

Wednesday Jul 9

Note
(rest day)
KC Work Day

Tuesday Jul 8

Weight Lifting 30:00 [2]
Bowflex in the Garage

Various upper body reps.

Monday Jul 7

Mountain Biking 35:00 [2] 10 km (3:30 / km)
Camdenton City Park

Rode the roads in and around the park as the XC kids ran.
Trail 36:00 [3] 6 km (6:00 / km)
PB2 @ Lake of the Ozarks State Park

2/3 Shady Ridge Trail, 1/3 park roads (very humid)

Sunday Jul 6

Note
(rest day)
Surprise Birthday Party for Mother-In-Law

Surprise because it is not until the 31st. Prepared for and entertained family for the day and accommodated overnight guests.

Saturday Jul 5

Trail 1:14:38 [3] 7.5 mi (9:57 / mi)
Honey Run Trail @ Lake of the Ozarks State Park

Ran the connector down to the slabs then ran the South loop counterclockwise back to the slabs. High humidy and sloppy west side of the South loop slowed pace enough to burn enough remaining daylight to force a return on the road instead of taking the connector back. All in all, not the most pleasant run.

Friday Jul 4

Note
(rest day)
Spent the Fourth with the Family

Went up the hill to one of the humps on the golf course too watch the fireworks display put on by Tan-Tar-A.

Thursday Jul 3

Mountain Biking 45:00 [3] 15 km (3:00 / km)
Neighborhood Loop
Walk 30:00 [1]
Behind the mower.

Wednesday Jul 2

Walk 10:00 [1] 0.5 mi (19:58 / mi)
Spring Trail @ Ha Ha Tonka State Park

To and from steps (20 lb pack)
Pack 58:52 [4]
Spring Trail Steps @ Ha Ha Tonka State Park

Down and up 7 times with a 20 lb pack.

Tuesday Jul 1

Note
(rest day)
Went with family to Jefferson City to do some big box store shopping.
