Friday Dec 31

Running 56:05 [3] 8.31 mi (6:45 / mi)
ahr:165 max:172 shoes: bruce
rice * 2. 19:08; 19:22. hot and humid: overcast, 71F, 75% humidity (dewpoint 64). i recall summer mornings in DC in 2002 being no worse for running than this - and this is the middle of winter. good riddance to 2004, an essentially wasted year in many ways.

Thursday Dec 30

Strength & Conditioning 45:00 [2]
shoes: michael

Wednesday Dec 29

Running 55:52 [3] 8.31 mi (6:43 / mi)
shoes: bruce
rice, 2 laps, 18:58 and 19:14. 71F, humid. Houston winter weather is a bit weird even for me. felt ok. right arch didn't complain - the three day rest seems to have done the trick.

Tuesday Dec 28

Cross Training (elliptical) 40:00 [4]
ahr:170 max:178 shoes: michael
920 cal; 692 after 30 minutes. this is really quite hard work if you push it. resting bruised right arch one more day. will try to run tomorrow, probably with new shoes.

Sunday Dec 26

Running 5:00 [1] 0.63 mi (7:56 / mi)
(injured) shoes: gabriel
beginning of a run to Rice; right arch too sore to continue. frustrating - it was a nice afternoon.
Cross Training (elliptical) 30:00 [4]
shoes: michael
689! taking out a bit of non-weight bearing frustration...
Strength & Conditioning 5:00 [3]
shoes: michael
warm down set.

Saturday Dec 25

Running 56:00 [3] 7.47 mi (7:29 / mi)
shoes: gabriel
Memorial Park; sunny, high 40s. Yellow - orange - orange - blue west - red loop * 2 1/2. Too much Chinese food doesn't a happy runner make.

Friday Dec 24

Cross Training (elliptical) 40:00 [3]
shoes: michael
prophylactically against knee damage after feeling sore yesterday after training.
Strength & Conditioning 15:00 [2]
shoes: michael
warmup sets, some u/b.

Thursday Dec 23

Running 1:20:00 [3] 11.85 mi (6:45 / mi)
ahr:162 shoes: gabriel
Belmont - W Holcombe - Brompton - east along Braes Bayou to Hermann Park, south at Greenbriar along the bike detour along S Braeswood to Hermann Park, a lap of the perimeter trail, then back the same way. 40F, still, overcast, getting dark (somewhere along the return along the bayou, which stinks).
Right knee is a little sore - between the patella and the skin.

Wednesday Dec 22

Strength & Conditioning 40:00 [2]
shoes: michael

Monday Dec 20

Running 55:53 [3] 8.31 mi (6:43 / mi)
ahr:163 max:168 shoes: gabriel
rice*2; 70F and quite humid, almost too hot for running without water. sunset. two laps in 18:58 and 19:05. knees quite sore; calmed down after about 15 minutes, at which point I started to get dehydrated, so not a great feeling at any point. but apparently quite quick.
i should do threshold loops around rice (plus a little bit of extra, maybe from the water fountain to the rice/greenbriar corner (1.1 laps).

Sunday Dec 19

Running (trails) 1:04:00 [3] 8.53 mi (7:30 / mi)
ahr:161 max:167 shoes: gabriel
Memorial Park, all the trails in the main section (including a few new trails I discovered for the first time). Nice afternoon: clear, still, sunny, 62F. Winter is tough.
Note the trail run speed has been pushed down to 7:30 miles but I haven't slowed down. Just thought it was wise to be more realistic.
Note
Nobody else seems to have named their shoes after anything interesting. Mine are named after archangels. The next one will be Bruce.
FWIW, gabriel is a pair of asics gel evolutions (spot the irony) and michael is a pair of brooks beasts. actually, one would think that the religious right would be after shoe manufacturers too fairly shortly if this nomenclature were typical...

Saturday Dec 18

Running 54:09 [3] 8.3 mi (6:31 / mi)
ahr:164 max:168 shoes: gabriel
belmont - buffalo speedway (it's such a great name) - brae's bayou as far as the bridge just after the southern pacific railtrack crossing. it's stinky down there, but apparently better after the 610 crossing. will try a longer run some day. when it's winter...
still not uninjured, shoulder pretty sore.

Friday Dec 17

Cross Training (elliptical) 30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: michael
678 cal. the injury is that i hurt some part of my shoulder while sleeping. it was so sore i had to take vitamin i and lie down most of the day. by the evening it was better enough for some cross training. i remain kind of cross.

Monday Dec 13

ahr:167 max:175 shoes: gabriel
home - two loops around rice - home. feeling a little like i'm about to become sick.
