| Orienteering race 1:23:52 [3]*** 12.1 km (6:56 / km) +540m 5:40 / km | ||

| Flying Pig classic. A bit better, but I clearly need to train more if I want to compete at orienteering at this level regularly. Low blood sugar (start not until 11:33, 2 hours after many) might have contributed, despite two gu.
Edited to add: I enjoyed this race, despite the negative sound of the above... It was sunny and the temperature was just right, and the death canyons of mud weren't so bad. And once you were wet enough, the soft ground was good to run on.
| Running warm up/down 6:00 [2]1 km (6:00 / km) | ||

| jogging to the start. | ||

| short at Flying Pig. again, navigation sucked. flow sucked. got tired towards the end. failed to punch finish control, leading to 1:16 split for the chute (best around 30 seconds). enough said. | ||

| Event: Flying Pig IX (US Team Trials) | ||
| Note | ||
| Flying Pig, Cincinnati OH, April 1-3. | ||
| Orienteering race 18:32 [4]*** 2.61 km (7:06 / km) | ||
| spiked:7/13c shoes: sarva | ||
| Sprint at Flying Pig. Sprints in parks at major events are less fun that events in actual forest. My navigation sucked even allowing for that. Enough said. | ||

| Running 1:02:30 [3]8.62 mi (7:14 / mi) | ||

| Memorial Park; 77F dropping to 73F, dewpoint steady at 68F. Uncomfortably hot from 10min through to 30min; then either I adapted or the slight temperature drop made it more comfortable. Anyone training for the WOC in Japan should come and do some running in Houston beforehand. Nice loop which I think might become a standard time trial:
yellow -short purple - yellow - orange - orange - back along purple - figure 8 through the old trails - purple to stream - red - double back on the shorter red section - longer red - blue - purple - purple - blue - red (longer) - purple across stream - orange shortcut - back on purple. It would make sense with a map... but unfortunately I haven't found an accurate map yet.
Tuesday Mar 29 | ||
| Running 56:55 [3]8.31 mi (6:50 / mi) | ||
| ahr:167 max:175 shoes: bruce | ||
| rice; 2 loops; 19:16, 19:22. 68F, 80% humidity, some breeze; evening. didn't feel too hot - I must be acclimating to these conditions to some extent. let's see how it goes for tomorrow (mid 80s forecast). | ||

| claire's apartment gym. must not do the leg press on these machines - it is clearly the source of my knee discomfort. next time, try squats with the free weights maybe. although should be ok to keep using it for calves. | ||
