| US Short champs, Thacher SP, Voorheesville, NY (Albany area). Beautiful day; good training for NAOCs in Milton. Surprisingly the GHO contingent - indeed, everyone except Mike Smith and John Frederickson - found it tough, and I was third even with a very wobbly run. I think one could have run 33-34 minutes with a clean run; this felt sloppy. |

| To Harvard Square, then (via an intermediate car trip - we were running fairly late) a lap of the Fells loop; with Jen. Beautiful evening. Clearly I'm a better rider than last time I rode here. Not perfect yet, by any means, though! Good to get back on the bike. |

| Well, nice day outside, and all the resolutions in the world wouldn't have been enough to stop me going mountain biking. The lack of a pump did, though. |

| Buying a tube meant I could also buy shoes. I'm not going to stop giving shoes proper formal names, but just in case I forget, Kaija Rautavaara is a pair of Montrail Hardrocks. |

| To Franklin Park. 5:40pm. 64F, dewpoint 44F; a little sweat-inducing. Running late, so took the directish route via Kenmore and down Brookline Ave. Watch said 45:56 but didn't get paused for street crossings. |

| Franklin Park park-O. Nice course; spent a lot of time wasted in the circle due to a combination of my lack of training for orienteering, the inaccuracy of the map in a couple of places (one I recall having issues with in the past); some new trails; the fact that it was too dark to read some of the finer detail where it's well mapped (most places); and various other whiney reasons I can probably think of if needed... Ross won by about 1:30; I was another 1:30 back. |
 | Running 50:00 [2]6.6 mi (7:33 / mi) | |
| weight:146lbs shoes: henri dutilleux |
| Back, this time via the Fens (so slightly more circuitous). More pleasant: 55F, occasional light sprinkles. Cruising nicely (unlike earlier). Total route. |

| It's amazing how much less time to work one has when training properly. My new year's resolution is, after this season and some associated commitments are over, never to train more (or much less) than 4 hours a week. That has to be enough to be healthy. Certainly it's not enough to be in race condition, but I don't care about that.
Whatever happens, I should definitely run less. My knees shouldn't feel like this (not their feeling as of today, but for the whole last few months). Given my biomechanics, I probably shouldn't run at all, but I enjoy it too much to give it up completely. |
