Event: US Classic Champs

Event: Canadian Orienteering Championships Festival

Orienteering 1:17:23 [3]*** 10.04 km (7:42 / km) +480m 6:13 / km
spiked:15/20c shoes: kaija rautavaara
US Champs, day 1. Took a while to warm up (terrible loss of map contact in an easy area around control 3), and no energy (altitude / last week's bike accident / too much traveling / no training ...), then navigation not too bad. The time on day 2 with almost zero mistakes suggests about 6 minutes of mistakes and 5 minutes slower running speed than the Swampfox.

Blue day1 - Splits

Friday Aug 18

Orienteering 25:00 [2]2 km (12:30 / km) +75m 10:32 / km
shoes: kaija rautavaara
US champs model event, Buena Vista, CO. Light rain, cool (low 60s). At least one sketchy control placement in rocks, something that would turn out to be good prediction of an even sketchier control on day 1.

Thursday Aug 17

Intervals 20:00 [4]3.24 mi (6:10 / mi)
shoes: sarva 2006
Cruise intervals (100 steps, then 150, about 10 reps) at Highland Park.
Running 30:00 [2]3.33 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: sarva 2006
The rest of the run.

Tuesday Aug 15

Orienteering 55:00 [3]*** 5.72 km (9:37 / km)
spiked:12/14c shoes: henri dutilleux
Mendon Ponds permanent course. Wearing shorts and running shoes (I had been intending to go for a trail run), but since I had the orienteering map with this course on it, and since the areas I sampled first were really nice running, I just did the course. Running really slowly (quads still sore from the weekend) and enjoying the forest. When it's white, it's very very white, and when it's green, it's horrid. Many deer, a frog or two, beautiful clear sunset weather, flowers out... nice evening. 72F, dewpoint 52F, still, sunny.

My map was black and white, making yellow and green hard to distinguish, so I took a few more trails than strictly necessary.
