Sunday Nov 4

Orienteering 1:19:03 [3]*** 11.2 km (7:03 / km) +505m 5:46 / km
spiked:15/21c shoes: kaija rautavaara
US Champs day 2; second on the day, first overall by about 5 minutes (or by 13 minutes among US-eligible personler). Nicer forest - less thick on the whole, but still fairly low-visibility and vague, needing more concentration than some had. More than I had too on a couple of occasions, but I caught myself in time.
C • Congrats! 1

Day 2 Blue - Splits

Saturday Nov 3

Orienteering 20:00 [2]*** 2 km (10:00 / km)
spiked:5/5c shoes: kaija rautavaara
Sauntered around some of the model event. Cool; gloves on. 8:15am.
Orienteering 1:34:34 [3]*** 12.7 km (7:27 / km) +490m 6:15 / km
spiked:7/20c shoes: kaija rautavaara
US champs day 1. Not a good run, but no big mistakes; enough to put me second on the day, a minute behind Mike Smith and 5 in front of third, 15 in front of 4th. Many small errors, and never really felt comfortable. Gorgeous day, if perhaps a little too much greenbriar on the map.

Note: several of the non-spikes are route choice errors far from the control (eg passing unnecessarily through mountain laurel, or leaving the previous control at the wrong angle).

Day 1 Blue - Splits

Friday Nov 2

Event: US Champs

Running 21:00 [3]2.9 mi (7:14 / mi)
shoes: johann cantaloupe bach
A quick morning saunter through Highland Park at sunrise (ie 7:35am...). 41F, still, slight morning clouds underlit by the rising sun.

Tuesday Oct 30

Orienteering 55:00 [3]*** 6.1 km (9:01 / km) +250m 7:29 / km
spiked:16/18c shoes: johann aloysius bach
Powder Mills. Reran the course from Sept 6 backwards. Felt good, but Powder Mills isn't the best area to train on (too steep, too marshy, too open, too many times the trails are the best way). Sunset, 54F, still, clear.
C • Southeastern US terrain? 3
