Georgia Navigator Cup day 1. Foul conditions - 39F, steady rain, although at least not windy. Course was fun and terrain was just difficult enough for orienteering, although a few areas didn't quite look as I had expected, and a few flags were a bit too visible from afar. Workmanlike: two 30 second hesitations and at least one 30-second route choice loss, but not too bad. Pleased to beat Blair. Wore tights, a short-sleeve shirt, gloves, and hat, which was about right for race pace and immediately became too cold as soon as I stopped moving.

Georgia is my 22nd A meet state and my 25th overall.

Test-running the red course for April's relay. Since I didn't need to navigate, this seems provisionally about right. Zero snow on the ground, amazing for Jan 13 in a winter where we've already had over 50 inches.

Fortunately, not too much storm damage from the 75 mph gusts we had on Wednesday morning; some debris of smaller twigs and about 10-15 extra fallen trees. Only one is irritating, and it can be got under without difficulty.

It really is time to retire kaija rautavaara. I wonder whether I would regret running in Georgia at the weekend in new shoes, since these ones are really not providing much support any more. My right foot pain at the base of the middle toe is probably not unrelated.
Running 1:05:00 [3]8.39 mi (7:45 / mi)

Ran a loop around the main ponds at Mendon, detouring into new terrain in the western part of the nature center (new to me, at any rate). Overcast, 39F. Motivation lacking for most of the way; cut a planned two hour total short.
