| Memorial Park, this time maybe for the last time. Nice run (cooler and breezy, 67F, overcast). Usual beginning (27:40 out, faster than yesterday although trying to be slower...), back on the green trail, then a tour of the red, yellow, and blue trails to finish. One of the places that makes Houston worth it.
Very Texan weekend: first Memorial Park, then here, then here, serendipitously, then here, then here, then here, then via this and this on the way back to Memorial Park. Then here. I think the Forbidden Gardens were the best. Nothing like a 1/3 scale model of the terracotta warriors of Xi'an in a sprawling Houston outer suburb. The only close remotely close Australian parallel I can think of is this, but the Forbidden Gardens are about 1000 times better. But everything was outstanding. This wasn't too bad either. (Turned down the 1999 Grange at $440 - way too young. Even ours was about 10 years too young, but an improvement on most of the rest of the menu, 20 years too young.) We did not in fact see any Attwater's Prairie Chooks. But I did have a fine non-vegetarian weekend (cow, sheep, muscovy duck, turkey, whatever animal is in sausages, and whichever one it is that can spare a few ribs). The orienteer in me was also excited (technically) to visit La Porte. TX-225 is the La Porte Freeway and the San Jacinto monument (again, truly awesome) is technically in La Porte. | ||

| Running 1:00:02 | ||

| Memorial Park. viis seccatis, time for the usual time trial, probably for the last time. Some dampness and rather warm for sunrise (62F/dp 59F rising to 64F/dp 61F, probably closer to 100% humidity under the canopy). 28:00 out, 26:57 back, probably starting timing 10 seconds before the usual start, so a 54:37 split; not bad. Lots of runners out (the late sunrise in the first week of daylight saving presumably having compressed people's schedules to run at the same time); plus it's hot at the moment (88F yesterday), hence even more people running in the morning. Not many animals (squirrels only). | ||
