| Orienteering race 15:00 [5]2.9 km (5:10 / km) +60m 4:41 / km | ||
| shoes: johann delphiniorum bach | ||
| Sprint 1. Easy campus stuff. Not my forte (pure running speed). | ||
| Orienteering 17:39 [4]2.7 km (6:32 / km) +60m 5:53 / km | ||
| shoes: esa-pekka olsson | ||
| Sprint 2. Not great; two big brain-dead over-running mistakes. The first one threw me, which is the only possible excuse for the second (and not much of an excuse). | ||

| Event: Flying Pig XII | ||
| Orienteering 34:59 [4]5.3 km (6:36 / km) +200m 5:33 / km | ||
| spiked:22/26c shoes: esa-pekka olsson | ||
| Flying Pig middle distance, WRE. First, but not by much (18s over Eric). Not a bad run, 26 controls in 5.3km mean most of the orienteering is control-to-control, not my favorite, but this was as well done as this can be given the terrain. Cool, 50F, and overcast, but no rain during my run; very sloppy underfoot (spikes wouldn't really have helped in this kind of wetness). No big mistakes, maybe 45 seconds total. Wrong shoes for this kind of super-slushy Cincinnati April terrain (though I'm not sure there exist any right shoes).
OCIN is a great club, would that they had some better terrain to work with ;) Imagine if Harriman were in southwestern Ohio... or if certain key OCIN people lived in Rockland County. WRE points, always a lottery with small events, came out to 936, improving my score by 100 or so. About as good as could have been hoped. Next WRE should at this stage be the Stars event on May 11.

| Bike 1:24:00 [3]22.45 mi (3:43 / mi) | ||
| shoes: shimano m-180b | ||
| Greece Canal Park. 57F dropping to 47F, clear except for a light haze. Spring is here if riding outside is possible again. Almost all the snow is gone with the exception of some hard-packed ice under 390 and a few hardy patches in deep shade west of there. | ||

| Running 58:00 [3]8.26 mi (7:01 / mi) | ||
| shoes: johann delphiniorum bach | ||
| Late morning (7:50am), cold (29F warming to 33F), sunny, 10mph W wind. Route. Felt sluggish. Right toe still sore and left foot still a little bruised, and I now have a blister on the left heel to go with it. Don't know what's the deal with that: these shoes are now comfortably 100 miles old, they're at least the fifth identical pair I've been wearing, and they still give me blisters (which none of the previous ones did at all)?
Run itself continues a tour of the residential streets between I-490, Cobbs Hill, the Pinnacle/Highland ridgeline, and Meigs. Everything looks trashy today: the grass looks bedraggled after the snow melted only in the last two days, and yesterday's winds blew rubbish everywhere.

| Bike 38:00 | ||
| shoes: johann cantaloupe bach | ||
| UR gym. My left foot is bruisèd and my right foot has a toenail that will have bled spectacularly when I get around to cutting it the next morning. versa est in luctum and all that, and no running.
Tough little workout, though.

| 3*12. slp 315, sq 490, cr 115 (be careful on symmetry and the left calf issues go away), fb 35, row 8, mp 4.
No running today, though it is a gorgeous day again; too much toenail damage (bleeding under the toenail causing pressure, the original damage caused by the combination of the seam in the neoprene sock and a slightly-too-long toenail on yesterday's run, though I didn't notice until a couple of hours later when I eventually had a shower (I'm confused why the delay on noticing; I'd changed socks and shoes long since).
