Event: Stars Spring WRE

Orienteering 41:09 [3]*** 6.7 km (6:09 / km) +100m 5:43 / km
spiked:22/27c shoes: glacial insect
Stars Spring WRE, Puslinch Tract, Cambridge, ON. An excellent course on an area with so many mtb trails on top of glaciated landscape that the trick was to ignore them when appropriate and not when not. Two loops (1 = 10 = 20) and a map exchange made it possible to fit 6.4 km in an area about 1km*700m of nice forest, plus 1km of run-out in easier stuff to the finish. Took home the win and the backpack prize by about 1:30 over Jon and then Hans, which was pleasing in this terrain which remains unfamiliar to me. Nice middle-distance course setting, except for the longer leg which seemed to have a clear trail run option (second leg on loop B) - other than that, full-time concentration was required. 55F, overcast, and a chilly E wind.
C • WRE 7
Orienteering 14:37 [4]*** 2.83 km (5:10 / km)
spiked:12/13c shoes: glacial insect
A fairly simple sprint. A little behind Jon; one stupid 10 second mistake, but he is more the sprinter.
Running 28:00 [2]5 km (5:36 / km)
shoes: glacial insect
To the start (1.2km), to and from the start to collect my jacket (warmdown) (2.4km), warmup for the sprint, jogging around after the sprint.

M Elite - Splits

Saturday May 10

Running 31:00 [2]3.81 mi (8:07 / mi)
shoes: johann delphiniorum bach
Slow morning jaunt. 7:30am. Route.
Orienteering 30:00 [2]*** 3.5 km (8:34 / km)
spiked:10/11c shoes: glacial insect
Stars afternoon training, Huron Natural Area, Kitchener, ON. Half of a Thomass race from February had streamers at controls. It was good to come so I could make my silly mistakes today and not tomorrow. Contour shapes didn't feel quite right, and I kept on being off line. Took it slowly.

Strength & Conditioning 50:00 [3]

Thursday May 8

Running 49:00 7.2 mi (6:48 / mi)
shoes: johann delphiniorum bach
Jogged to UR; felt empty of energy; 6:54am. Did 20 minutes at 10.0/1.0 on the treadmill (wanted an objective measure of effort/'speed'). Jogged back. Overcast, 54F outside; warmer and covered with a roof inside.

Wednesday May 7

Running 58:15 [3]8.03 mi (7:14 / mi)
shoes: johann delphiniorum bach
Highland - Pinnacle - Cobbs Hill - Highland Ave - S Clinton - Highland Pkwy - Highland. Sluggish. 7:10am; lightly overcast, 49F, still, humid.

Tuesday May 6

Running 44:30 6.14 mi (7:14 / mi)
shoes: johann delphiniorum bach
4*4/3. A little late this morning (started 7:30); the pollen load in the air from the lilacs in Highland Park is getting just a little extreme. My yesterday-washed car is covered already in a pale suffusion of yellow. (This suggests the purpurean lilacs are not really to blame, rather the pine tree above the car, but they're certainly smelly when you run past them.)
