Should probably have done a warm-up, but got quite chilly in the start box anyway.
Big struggling up the first climb, chest feeling quite bad. Got into it after a bit and got to Castlelaw not too far behind Colm.
Was absolutely binned on the descent, and somehow ended up completely by myself by the shooting range and road section. Couldn't see anyone else which was a bit unnerving, but I knew I was going the right way - just a bit odd.
Worked well up Turnhouse etc and managed to catch Colm at the top of Scald Law. He then zoomed off down the hill and I never quite got back onto him - came close at Black Hill, but that was when my wheels fell off.
Back in a weird no man's land after this, going faster than those behind but slower than those ahead, so it was a bit of a trundle by myself. Made it to the finish eventually, but rather weary by then.
Not very happy with my descending - never been my forte, but was so scared of falling and hurting my arm again that I was going at a snails pace. So some very easy time gains to be made once I've had some more calcium and regrown my testes
A good day out nonetheless!
14 minutes quicker than 2015 which is the last time I'd run it, so an improvement is nice, especially given the lack of volume in the last 6 weeks
