Sunday Feb 24

Road Ride 1:46:00 [3] 40.9 km (2:36 / km)
slept:8.0 weight:76kg shoes: Shimano MTB
Bobbin Head loop, Roseville-Turramurra-Bobbin Head-Hornsby-Roseville. The national park section of the ride was enjoyable, but the highway sections were not. Dug deep up the hill from Bobbin to Hornsby, felt good to blow by a club rider on a Trek Madone with my early 90's klunker and MTB pedals - did 11'30" from the bridge to Kalkari sign. The rest of the ride was reduced to a series of sprints off the line to keep up with traffic between lights.

Friday Feb 22

run 1:02:00 [3]
shoes: Asics 2100
Fairyland loop. Feeling pretty terrible from night work and sickness.

Wednesday Feb 20

run 1:00:00 [3] 10 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Asics 2100
Two Creeks loop. Coming onto a night shift, so was struggling a lot. Cold from return of NZ trip is still around a bit, probably 30% left.

The last week hasnt been the most conducive to training, plenty of stressful 14 hr work days, heavy cold, etc. Gotta shake the rut now and get back into it! A few night shifts means I can train mid afternoon after morning sleep, which is nice.

Wednesday Feb 13

Orienteering race (Summer Series) 50:00 [4] 9.5 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Asics 2100
At Balls Head. Felt good on this one despite having pretty much the flu all day. It felt good to get out and purge the body. Pushed pretty well the whole way, fairly hilly course. Got 480 I think, Andy got 540.
run warm up/down 35:00 [3] 6 km (5:50 / km)
shoes: Asics 2100
Down to Balls Head from work then back with Sebba.

Tuesday Feb 12

Note
(sick)
Fluish so no run today. Cbf rating was also = 10/10.

Monday Feb 11

Orienteering race 23:00 [3] 2.5 km (9:12 / km)
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
Sprint Series at UWS Rydalmere. Pretty buggered from travelling back from NZ in the morning so coasted around. Didnt stop me doing my worst mistake for a very long time, trying to cross a very full creek, 100m of lantana and the main railway line between #13 and #14 for some inexplicable reason and ended up having to go back the same way to 13 to rethink my route. Jogged into the finish. Oh well.

Sunday Feb 10

Orienteering race (Karepiro Craphole) 1:30:00 [3] **** 7 km (12:51 / km)
slept:5.0 shoes: New Balance 781
Not so fun, bad end to the week. Wet + steep = wobbly ankles and slow going, bad map, dodgy control placement, thick vegetation, etc etc. Motivation ran out at #9 and jogged back. Shame to end the week on a low like that. Cancelled course so no biggie, feel a bit sorry for the organisers who put in their time. Nice beach setting though.
run warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: New Balance 781
Jog to the start, no warm down.

Saturday Feb 9

Orienteering race (Hedley Road, Woodhill) 42:17 [4] 4.9 km (8:38 / km) +225m 7:01 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: New Balance 781
What a cool area! Enjoyed the nav chalenge in such interesting terrain to run in. Fairly sloppy but didnt really care, started to lose it physically at about #12, the last few controls were a bit slower than they should have been. Fairly satisfied with my run.
run warm up/down 10:00 [2]
shoes: New Balance 781

Friday Feb 8

Note
(rest day)
Snorkelling at Goat Island then a tour of the inlaws awesome Takatu Winery near there at Matakana. Another great rest day.

Thursday Feb 7

Note
(rest day)
Waitomo Caves - awesome. The glow worms thought our rendition of 'Eternal Flame' was awesome too.

Wednesday Feb 6

Orienteering race (Aramiro) 1:50:00 [3] 9 km (12:13 / km) +650m 8:59 / km
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
Really steep, nice forest, kinda tired, plugged away. Glad I finished.

Tuesday Feb 5

Orienteering race (Loop Race, Kairangi) 1:03:00 [3] 8 km (7:52 / km)
slept:7.0 shoes: New Balance 781
Didnt do the last loop, bit sick of steep farmland. Running at about 80% the whole way, good for the practice.

Monday Feb 4

Orienteering race (University of Waikato) 17:25 [5] 3.1 km (5:37 / km)
shoes: Asics 2100
Typical uni style sprint map, with great course setting to take advantage of the pond areas for spectators.
Went out as fast as I could while keeping contact with the map. Still lost 25 secs at #4 when I ran out of 3 the wrong way. Not much else wrong but started to lose it physically between #14 and #20, got it back together again for the finish. Result was about par for me.
run warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Sunday Feb 3

Orienteering race (Waihora, Taupo) 1:03:00 [4] 7.7 km (8:11 / km)
shoes: New Balance 781
Really cool terrain, close to the best I have orienteered on. Tough course, always up and down, it was hard to get any sort of rhythm. Just sat at a comfortable pace and enjoyed it. Quite buggered at the end after three races in 24hrs.

Saturday Feb 2

Event: Waitangi Summer Carnival

Orienteering race (Airport, Taupo) 38:17 [4] 5.1 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: New Balance 781
First ever O in NZ. Two biggish errors put paid to what would have been a good run, the rest of the course I did quite cleanly. Wrong way out of #3 meant 2 mins of blackberries to get back on course and 5 mins at #15 in the wrong gully. Complex fun area so I wasnt too worried. Ran pretty hard, quite hot conditions.
Orienteering race (Punatekahi, Taupo) 1:10:00 [3] 6.2 km (11:17 / km) +240m 9:28 / km
slept:6.0 shoes: New Balance 781
Katoa Po relays. Did the second leg of the 3 person relay, started running at about 11pm. Really fun, but plenty of small and big mistakes, about 7 mins on #10 was the worst.
