Sunday Sep 30

Orienteering race (ACT Long Champs) 40:00 [2] 4 km (10:00 / km) +100m 8:53 / km
Started out with good intentions but the legs have definitely not recovered from last weekend. Got almost to 4, then sat on a rock for 10 mins and ponder nothing in particular, then got up and loped home via the last few controls. Happy to run with a map.

Saturday Sep 29

Event: Oceania Champs Carnival

run 34:00 [3] 6 km (5:40 / km)
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
Got out on a nice morning to see if I would have any hope of completing tomorrows course. The jury was still out when I finished.

Friday Sep 28

run 30:00 [3] 6 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
Didnt feel too bad, thought I was going to feel way worse, but I seem to recover from these long runs ok. Let it go for 4 days before running again, cant be too sure you havent recovered yet :-)
The worst thing was running at 7am.

Sunday Sep 23

Event: Sydney Marathon

run race (Sydney Marathon) 3:35:40 [4] 42.19 km (5:07 / km) +150m 5:01 / km vdot: 43.2
Sydney Marathon. Started really slowly, basically walking across the start line, then managed to roll my ankle in a pothole in the first 200m, just turning onto the bridge. Still cant believe it. Luckily it was only a '20 second special' and ran it out over the next few minutes. The crowd spread out over the bridge, it was so great to run across the middle of the harbour bridge on such a morning, real magic, especially still feeling that fresh.
Kept looking at the Garmin about 3 times a minute to make sure of my pace, kept it between 4:30 and 5's most of the time. Was wanting to go under 3:30 and was pretty confident of doing so.
Out to Centenary park, past quite a few perplexed drunks along Oxford St, things were nice and steady. Through 10, 15, 20km. Started to get quite fatigued legs as we crossed halfway (1:42 ish) and changed my loping high impact running style to a long slung high rotation shuffle, that was actually faster but less stressful, could tell I was burning more energy though. Still kept building up a nice little 'time bank' to a target of about 3:23. The 3:30 pacer was still ahead though.
Through 25, 30km things were ok if getting slightly more difficult. Then at about 32km - up what I consider must be harder than Everest - the City West Link up to Norton St. It just killed me, but I got through it better than most around me I think. I'm glad I wasnt the only one, it was a scene of devastation. Running back towards the harbour bridge and the finish at the opera house was all pain. Managed to grind out the last bit in a daze.
Unfortunately the last 10km took huge gouges out of my time bank and then some, but I didnt and still dont care, just glad to have a road marathon.
Box ticked.

Wednesday Sep 19

run (Valla Beach) 50:00 [3] 9 km (5:33 / km)
Another easy run, this time the other way, south along the coast. Again very nice after a day of fieldwork in the bush.

Monday Sep 17

run (Valla Beach) 31:00 [3] 5.5 km (5:38 / km)
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
Fairly easy run along Valla Beach near twilight after a day of driving from Sydney and then fieldwork. Nice.

Saturday Sep 15

Event: 70's Disco

run 1:06:00 [3] 10 km (6:36 / km) +500m 5:17 / km
slept:7.0 weight:77kg shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
From home around Northbridge GC, then around Northbridge suburb, then back home through Tunks Park. I wish I was a morning person.

Friday Sep 14

run 15:00 [2] 2 km (7:30 / km) +50m 6:40 / km
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
Pottered around Cammeray.
run 10:00 [5] 1 km (10:00 / km) +180m 5:16 / km
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
2 x modified Bastard Hill. Wasnt feeling so crash hot after dinner.

Thursday Sep 13

run 51:00 [3] 10 km (5:06 / km) +250m 4:32 / km
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
Up the freeway cycleway to Artarmon, down the Pacific Hwy to St Leonards, then back thru Crows Nest.
Calves hurting most of the way, but the watch said I was going quick and felt pretty easy.

Monday Sep 10

run 49:00 [3] 9 km (5:27 / km) +80m 5:13 / km
shoes: Asics 2100
Went for a run between doing my fieldwork near Byron Bay and getting the plane back in the evening from Coolangatta. So I found a good place - the northernmost bit of coast in NSW. Ran along the beach to the southern breakwater of the Tweed River (the northernmost point of NSW) and back along the road a bit inland.
Wasnt quite as auspicious as I hoped - nice big sewerage outpipe right near the breakwater, and rubbish everywhere on the road back. The waves at the entrance of the river were pretty spectacular though.

Saturday Sep 8

run 51:00 [3] 9.5 km (5:22 / km) +400m 4:26 / km
shoes: Asics 2100
Down to Balls Head, then started to do a surge around the loop but just cbf. Went down to the point and watched the choppers shining spotlights on anything that did or didnt move. Then home at a good pace, negative splat even though its mostly uphill home, dipped under 4's for good chunks of the flat near the end.

Friday Sep 7

run 46:00 [3] 8 km (5:45 / km) +250m 4:58 / km
Up the gore hill freeway cycleway, tested myself with couple of 8 min surges at about 4's, came through ok.
GO THE EELS.

Wednesday Sep 5

run 48:00 [3] 9 km (5:20 / km) +300m 4:34 / km
shoes: Asics 2100
Ran down under the harbour bridge at Milsons Point and back home, at night. Got down there just in time to see the armada (or decoy armada) carrying the prez from Kirribilli to the Opera House. Helicopters, flashing lights, everywhere. I wonder how long I would have lasted had I been pointing one of those green laser lights around the place?

Sunday Sep 2

run long 2:06:00 [3] 23.5 km (5:22 / km) +1000m 4:25 / km
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
Did this one after watching Mottrams effort in the 5000. From home to Gladesville bridge, then Iron Cove Bridge, then Glebe Island Bridge, then Sydney Harbour Bridge then home. Kept up a pretty good pace. Heaps of police wandering around the city.

Saturday Sep 1

run 55:00 [3] 11 km (5:00 / km) +300m 4:24 / km
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
In the morning before going to a work friends wedding. Up to Artarmon and back through Tunks Park. Felt crap as usual on a morning run.
