Monday Dec 31

run 1:00:00 [3] 11 km (5:27 / km) +350m 4:42 / km
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
Last run for the year, Northbridge GC and streets. Fairly humid as usual.

Sunday Dec 30

run 37:00 [3] 7 km (5:17 / km) +100m 4:56 / km
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
Decided to get out of town so took a trip to Bathurst with Margo (wotif.com accom deal decided our destination). Drove a lap of the Bogan's Altar when we got there then ran from the hotel to the entrance of the circuit and back.
Not sure if its been mapped, but the CSU at Bathurst and the TAFE across the road look good for park-o.

Thursday Dec 27

run 1:03:00 [3] 11 km (5:44 / km) +400m 4:51 / km
shoes: Asics 2100
Up to Middle Cove head, around said head and back by the most direct route. Didnt feel great by pushed on despite. Quite a hilly run - three of four directions from my place involve a large climb home.

Wednesday Dec 26

run warm up/down 17:00 [3] 3 km (5:40 / km) +90m 4:56 / km
shoes: Asics 2100
Down to Tunks Park and back up The Bastard Hill after the intervals.
run intervals 7:20 [5] 2.2 km (3:20 / km)
shoes: Asics 2100
5 laps of Tunks Park cricket oval (about 440m) at 3:10-3:20/km pace. Breaks between were what felt right, about 1-1.5mins.
Felt like crud, on a massive sugar low after a day of chocolate and caramel.

Monday Dec 24

Road Ride 2:25:00 [3] 59 km (2:27 / km) +400m 2:23 / km
shoes: Shimano MTB
Ride from Hornsby to Brooklyn (1:04), then Woy Woy to my Grandfathers place at Tuggerah (1:21). My crank was coming loose every 20 mins or so from the get go, with uphills making the process quicker. So wisely I decided to forego the big hills out of Brooklyn and Mooney Mooney Ck for the train from Brooklyn to Woy Woy. Still a nice ride, bike feels good to ride, its so much better when you have a purposeful destination. I guess thats why most cyclists end up at a cafe after.

Sunday Dec 23

Road Ride 2:00:00 [3] 45 km (2:40 / km) +550m 2:31 / km
shoes: Shimano MTB
Ride on a glorious morning. Spit-Wakehurst Pkway-Narrabeen-Pittwater Rd-Spit. Felt good but the bike didnt want to go down to the lowest gears so ground away up many of the steeper hills. Back problem non-existent during or after ride so I consider myself cured.
C • or maybe it didn't hurt bec... 2

Saturday Dec 22

run 1:06:00 [3] 13 km (5:05 / km) +300m 4:33 / km
shoes: Asics 2100
Tunks Park-Northbridge Streets-Hallstrom Point-Tunks Park. Felt ok for a run before breakfast, got the wobbles towards the end though. Really really humid.

Wednesday Dec 19

run 40:00 [3] 8 km (5:00 / km) +100m 4:42 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: Asics 2100
Trundle around the streets of Cremorne at dusk. Felt pretty good so it felt pretty easy.

Saturday Dec 15

Adventure Race race (AROC Race) 4:30:00 [4] 40 km (6:45 / km)
slept:6.0 weight:77kg shoes: New Balance 781
At Avoca. Great start finish area beside Avoca Lake on a baking hot morning. Went in a team with Orla and old workmate James. Started off at a cracking pace as usual, along Avoca Beach while most teams headed into the suburbs earlier, I dont think we were disadvantaged. Through the suburbs and around the bushy bits of the lake, then over to the bike pickup very near the Dents place at the back of Terrigal.
Prob about 20th place (140? teams) at the time, we scooted through the streets to Kincumber Mountain picking up a couple of controls. Then up Kincumber Mountain a huge walk/carry bike straight up an unrideable track the sweat was streaming off at this stage and the track was a constant stream of 200+ people and bikes. Got to the top, then back down a side track to get another control and back up to the main reserve at the top to do the orienteering. Pretty simple stuff, would have easily gained more places than we lost on the bike. Back on the bike and flew down the mountain on the fire trail to the north, back into the start/finish at Avoca, picking up a control on the way, really fast and fun. Feeling pretty good, but I think James was starting to cave a bit.
Into the kayaks in about 18th place apparently, we kept going pretty well, held our own, but my back started to really suffer near the end, got out of the boat really gingerly.
Trotted out to start the last leg hoping my back would warm up and we could go faster but after 4hrs I dont think the others were complaining about the pace. The back felt more limber after 10 mins but we didnt really speed up. We caught several teams who werent navigating so well and got the jump on them. We just kept grinding away to the finish, a couple of sausage sangers and cokes didnt even touch the sides after the race. My back sored up again after the race.
Lazydave reckoned we could have come 8th but have to wait for the results. The race effort didnt feel as intense as previous ones but we got a similar result nonetheless.

Friday Dec 14

run 47:00 [3] 8 km (5:52 / km) +200m 5:13 / km
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
West St-Luna Park-Alfred St loop at night. Nothing special but felt quite good.

Thursday Dec 13

run 45:00 [3] 7 km (6:26 / km) +250m 5:27 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: Asics 2100
Tunks Park-Northbridge GC-Hallstrom Pt out and back. Feeling good, nice sunny afternoon.

Wednesday Dec 12

run 25:00 [2] 4 km (6:15 / km) +80m 5:41 / km
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
Really slow blob down to Tunks Park and back in the morning. Really wet underfoot, must have rained alot overnight or the sea level is rising already.

Sunday Dec 9

run 25:00 [3] 5 km (5:00 / km) +80m 4:38 / km
slept:6.0 shoes: Asics 2100
Work Xmas party last night meant todays activities were restricted to running down to Kirribilli to get the car. Actually felt very normal today despite all the scientific and anecdotal evidence suggesting I should have been feeling very, very sick.

Saturday Dec 8

run 1:27:00 [3] 16 km (5:26 / km) +300m 4:58 / km
shoes: Asics 2100
Actually two runs (40min + 47min) separated by a trip to Manly Wharf Hotel for my bro-in-laws birthday. Beer and pizza is not good to run on.

Wednesday Dec 5

Orienteering (Summer Series) 1:00:00 [3] 8 km (7:30 / km) +150m 6:51 / km
shoes: Asics 2100
Just putting out and bring in controls.

Tuesday Dec 4

run 1:10:00 [3] 12 km (5:50 / km) +200m 5:23 / km
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
Down to Blackman Park after work to check control site for summer series tomoz. Then back. Patchy rain was a bit annoying, slowed up big time near the end.
Orienteering 1:00:00 [2] 7 km (8:34 / km) +200m 7:30 / km
shoes: Nike Stucture Triax 9
Checkin controls. Didnt look at them all, mainly went to most-likely-to-be-dodgy control sites. The rest I have been to before at least twice in previous events.

Sunday Dec 2

Road Ride (Lane Cove NP Out-Back) 1:20:00 [3] 26.5 km (3:01 / km) +250m 2:53 / km
(injured) shoes: Shimano MTB
From Cammeray to Chatswood then up Lane Cove River NP to De Burghs, then back.
I have never really had a road bike before, I cant believe how effortless it feels to ride, sometimes I swear it was dragging me up the hills. Cant wait to get it tuned to give it good brakes and a full range of gears!

My back is about 90% better but after yesterdays effort I was a bit nervous.

Saturday Dec 1

run hills 44:00 [3] 6 km (7:20 / km) +300m 5:52 / km
slept:8.0 weight:78kg (injured) shoes: Asics 2100
Hills on the tracks in Flat Rock Gully. Alternated 2 twice up the tracks on either side. Real humid, I think I need windscreen wipers on my forehead these days. Didnt really push the hills, so it was more of a hilly trail run.
Hill times 2'45, 2'54, 2'50, 2'47.
Road Ride 25:00 [3] 8 km (3:08 / km) +100m 2:56 / km
(injured) shoes: Shimano MTB
Rode out to the Spit and back just to test the new steed. Back felt pretty stiff and sore so happy to limit the ride to a test trial.
