| Last day of Easter. After yesterdays DNF, I was put back further in the chasing start, starting just after two Brits and Sebba. I caught the two Brits into 1, passing Sebba on the way out as I was on my way in. Lost ~1min in the circle, then off around the tough 2-3-4-5, losing about 30 secs on 2 and 4 in the circle. Caught Seb at 4, then got away on the run to 6, went right around the hill to 7, had a big drink at 8. Went and had a good look around on the hill to the east of 9, lost about 4 mins, and the Brits were exiting the control as I went up to it. Caught them back up at 10, then ran away from them to 12, was orienteering nice and clean and feeling much better than I usually do at this stage of the 3 days. Got cleanly and relatively quickly through the last loop (with only two stick impaling incidents in my legs) with Wes Dose on my tail. Pity I made over 5 mins of mistakes today.
Not sure why I felt so good for the whole 3 days, maybe I think it was not holding back when it came to refuelling (lots of choc eggs!). Usually I struggle to recover from a hard race, even a middle distance. Not an Easter to remember, personally.

| Day 2 of Easter. Coming off not feeling so good running yesterday, the start of this one was to be expected - I felt pretty ordinary for the first half hour. Lost 1-2mins at 1, then ok through the next few, Shep ran through me just as we entered the forest up to 4 (his splits show I should I not have felt too disheartened), then Liggo came up behind me into the same control. Struggled quite a bit through the tough stuff from 4 to 9, went to 10 before 9 accidentally, and was just content to plod along, knowing that I was slow but everyone else was prob only a bit quicker.
Picked up the pace out of 10, into the more open stuff thank God, and knew I was making progress through the course ok. Ryan caught me at 14, I thought he would just run away but I found myself comfortably at the same pace. Unfortunately he disappeared after 15 (to get 16, which for some reason I didnt feel like getting today) as I headed to 17. My confidence was getting higher as I beat him into 17(!) and we were together until 24, where he put a minute on me through to the finish. Kez came flying through us on hte short leg over the hill (21-22?). I was very surprised today that I felt stronger on the second half of the course, and lost all my time physically in the first half. I should really get all the controls next time.

| First (second?) day of Easter. Started out ok, I didnt run here last year so I didnt know what to expect. Was solid through the first few, a bit of a convoluted route to 3 (a bit apprehensive about the rock). Rob P caught me at the end of the clearing going to 6, I was very surprised to see him catch me 4 mins by here! Lost a bit coming into 7 from the left, Rob disappeared. Saw him out of 8 (he stuffed it) then alone again through to 13, where I caught Terry Farrell, we did the last few together (and a couple of others - both people and controls) through to the finish.
I was not feeling so well today, especially through the middle section 5 to 10. I was a bit surprised I was so far off the pace, I guess hardening up through the granite was in order!

| Event: Australian Easter Three Days and Prologue | ||
| Orienteering race 17:12 [5] 3.4 km (5:04 / km) +20m 4:55 / km | ||
| Easter Prologue at Western Plains Zoo. Felt a bit stale on this one, but glad I put in the effort. Went ok through the first few, but got confused in the circle at 6, where I lost 40 secs around the rock wall/fence looking for the control. Felt nice and constant through the last half of the course, even if things were getting a bit tough physically for me. Lost 20 secs on the spectator near the end (escaped fairly unscathed compared to others). My splits were fairly similar in pace to others like Rob P but the mistakes killed me. | ||

| Down at UTS Lindfield 430m oval. A 1500, a 200 then 10 x 100 with jog recovery. Did the 1500 in 5:30, felt solid but didnt break myself. Then the 100s up and down the soccer oval in the middle. Felt pretty good but a bit sore in the muscles like somethings not quite right. | ||

| weight:75kg shoes: Asics 2100 | ||

| run 28:00 [3] 5 km (5:36 / km) +100m 5:05 / km | ||

| Ran to work. A bit hot this morning. The first time I have run to the new offices, and found that the shower room has shrunk in proportion to the increase in size of the overall office. Its bloody small. | ||

| The opposite of yesterday - warming up I felt absolutely terrible, nauseous, etc. But got out on the course and just felt very controlled. Not very fast though. I was surprised to see Kez coming out of #3, got him 2 mins, but he quickly disappeared ahead again. Was even more surprised to see him loom up behind me again at #11! Him and Parto quickly dusted me though. I was just hanging on even before I hit the steep stuff, but took my big warm glass of H T F U (it was actually hot from sitting in the sun by now) and kept going on the 2nd loop, didnt really consider stopping. Caught SteveO but he disappeared (back to the finish?) and kept coming across Kieran Sullivan. Shep and Robbie went through me at #20 but
watching them walking up to #21 in front made me realise I wasnt going too bad. Lost Kieran ahead but picked him up again going into #23. Went wide on #24 and Simon went through me, I followed him up over the hill towards #25 but he took off. I was starting to get real wobbly and everything was cramping so I slowed down (dont know how I could get slower) to get through to the finish. Managed to get through the final few controls, though if #29 was anything but the 2nd last I would have given up. What a cruel control. I agree with most that the people on the steep loop first had a theoretical advantage. Looking at the results I lost 14mins to Shep before he passed me (#20), then 21mins after. Not sure I would have lost so much if I had the steam to run the steep stuff first. But then again, maybe I really should get some steam. Good on the course setter though for trying something different. The drive back to Sydney straight after was a struggle to say the least.

| What a disaster. Had the physical demons, could barely put one foot in front of the other. I dont know why I have days like this occasionally. The physical demons spawned mental demons which didnt help clean nav. Plenty of mistakes and slow jogging. What a bugger. | ||
Thursday Mar 6 | ||
| run 32:00 [4] 7 km (4:34 / km) +60m 4:23 / km | ||

| Down to UTS Lindfiled for a couple of hard laps of the oval to try to give my legs a wake up after most of a week of feeling like rubbish.
Felt very stale. | ||
