EUOC big weekend - Brown course on Arthur's Seat
Fairly clean to #20, though maybe a little time lost finding #2. Was getting more tired as the course went on so it was a mistake I think to take a middle-ish (more climb) route from 20 to 21, when should have just legged it round the road to the south as went via the top of the bog anyway. Made a mistake at #23/24, though was too knackered to notice until I got the results print out that I'd actually missed #24 all together. Looked similar on the map (good planning!) so just lost concentration. Had been confused as to why #25 seemed so low! Enjoyed the chance to orienteer on the Seat but would have been a lot better with fresh legs. Even had to walk some climbs! And far too warm for January, 14C, wtf!

Devils Burdens Relay - Legs 3 Carnethy V40 team with Jon Ascroft
Was really looking forward to this, one of my favourite events, and breathed a sigh of relief that our team all made it with no call offs. Pleased to be paired with Jon who is usually slightly faster up and I'm slightly fast down & flat, but overall we're well matched. With this in mind was glad to get up the first brutal climb from Kinnesswood to White Craigs intact. From then on the leg played generally in my favour so got to push the pace, and Jon did a great job hanging on. We were surprised to catch Doug & Duncan of HBT who had made an error to CH10, largely trying to navigate from the 1:50000 race map with red blobs for checkpoints and no fences marked. Enjoyed hanging onto their coat tails down into the valley though they opted for a more direct (potentially rough) route to the gate below the steep climb to CH12, instead of the longer path route, and it paid off handsomely for them. Overall really enjoyed the run/event. Finished 6th overall & 1st vets. The new leg 3 is good and hopefully they'll keep it, though the race map could do with being improved to show more clearly where the checkpoints are, and where you can/can't run (show walls/fences which aren't supposed to be crossed).

Run from the boulder round the back of Haggis Knowe/loch then up Whinny Hill north side to the summit. Descended to DV col then up Nether, back down to NW loch corner, round the side of Whinny and up the east climb. Finished descending down the north side and back by the road to the boulder. Out with Paddy, Marco & Kev. Ran continuously, i.e. no breaks at the top of climbs and took the climbs fairly steady & controlled. Felt fine. Cool, overcast and no wind.

Session round Warriston loop - 8, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1min efforts with 90sec recoveries after the 8 & 6, and 1min recs after the rest. Decided to limit effort by HR so as not to overdo it before Saturday. Felt good and was recovering quickly after each rep. Stats :
