JOK sprint chasing start - Started 10secs down on Ross, 10 secs ahead of Tim and 20secs ahead of Paul. The pace felt pretty quick and didn't seem to be able to close gaps as probably would've preferred to have been running a bit slower. Mistake at #5 meant all four of us were quite close. Things eventually split up again in the woods and I was largely on my own from approaching #9 to #12. Lost half a minute at #11 which I didn't spot from above despite being a massive re-entrant. Worst mistake was an awful route choice to #12. Went quite direct and ended up being spat out onto the west end of the golf course. Should've gone north to hit the path and ran down as the terrain was dreadful in bits. So by #12 all four of us were back together again. BTW, what is a brown triangle on the map? We all made a hash of #15 which was in a jungle. From #16 to the finish was a direct race, with Tim initially in front, and Ross then myself and Paul chasing. Didn't look at the map as I followed Ross down and we passed Tim by #20. Was really hoping Ross would break but he held strong and deserved to pip me on the line as I couldn't have given another inch of effort. Gutted! Was great fun though, really enjoyed the head to head. Not a great performance overall though I guess as threw it away after #10 by poor route choice. Fitness not feeling that good. 4th vet.
