Trail Running 1:19:23 [3] 10.01 mi (7:56 / mi) +320m 7:13 / mi

Met up with Willie Sharp's FVH Sunday run group at Balvormie. Went a run with two of the junior middle distance runners Kane and Ben round Beecraigs. Had instructions to run 16k and covered a good route including the loch, out & back on hill house plus Cockleroi. Good to run with new company, both very fast runners but the hills and distance were at least a leveller, plus I planned the route (as I went along) and knew where I was going! Bit of rain but not bad. Hanna went a decent run with Tracey & a few others.

6 AM

Hill Running 57:19 [3] 6.2 mi (9:15 / mi) +480m 7:27 / mi

Hexenwasser Loop anti-clockwise before breakfast. Steady effort on another nice cool morning. Going to miss the Alpine runs!
8 AM

Trail Running 17:48 [2] 1.84 mi (9:40 / mi) +70m 8:39 / mi

Last holiday run with the family up to the chapel and back. Got slightly faster each time.
10 AM

Walking 1:30:00 [1] +20m

Last couple of walks, both largely downhill - Keatalm to Hexenwasser and Hexenwasser down the zigzags to Soll. End of a great holiday.

Friday Aug 2 #

8 AM

Hill Running 1:25:43 [4] 9.39 mi (9:08 / mi) +870m 7:05 / mi

Run up to Keatalm (54.00) via the zigzags to Hexenwasser (33.15) and Simonalm. Descended via the Keatalm zigzags then round to Hexenwasser and down the usual zigzags. Steady start on the climb then worked a bit harder to run the whole way. Descent was a delight, averaged around 6min/mile all the way down quite relaxed and despite the gates. Reasonably cool. Great run.
10 AM

Walking 1:00:00 [1] +200m

Fairly easy walk from Brandstadl to Ellmis and back with some play along the way.

7 AM

Trail Running 45:03 [3] 5.42 mi (8:19 / mi) +200m 7:27 / mi

Pre-breakfast run up to chapel then down to valley and back over Moorsee. Went a bit of a convoluted route through the woods on the way back. Lovely cool and dry.
9 AM

Walking 3:10:00 [1] +500m

Got bus to Hintersteiner See then walked up to Stofflhutte & Walleralm. Decided to give the Jagersteig path a go which turned out to be 3 miles of undulating tree rooty traverse. Was worth it for some of the views where there were breaks in the tree cover. Descended from Steiner Hochalm to Scheffau via Hinter -Schiesslingalm and the Rehbachklamm. Another great family walk and got us up to the 3000 points required for the hiking medal with a couple of days to spare. Another nice sunny day though glad to be shaded in the woods for much of the walk.

Wednesday Jul 31 #

Walking 1:00:00 [1] +200m

Did a couple of shorter walks, one from Hopfgarten middle station to Salvenalm and back and the second from Hexenwasser round the Salvenmoos loop. Mainly to bag hiking badge points! Very wet on second walk.
8 AM

Hill Running 1:11:33 [4] 5.18 mi (13:49 / mi) +1160m 8:09 / mi

Run from the hotel direct up to the summit of Hohe Salve via the zig zags to Hexenwasser (33.25) then up the front via Simonalm and Keitalm (53.30). Felt decent the whole way up, the difficulty kicking in just before Keitalm where I started walking the tougher bits. Conditions pretty good with some light rain early on and ran up into the cool mist from 1400m up. Almost chilly at the top. Good climb to get under the belt and around 90secs faster than last year.

Trail Running 19:36 [2] 1.89 mi (10:22 / mi) +120m 8:40 / mi

Got the gondola down to meet T & H at Hexenwasser then we went a run out and back on the path towards the Filzalmsee, turning at the top of hill beyond the meadow. Nice run and Hanna going well. Perfect temperature!

7 AM

Hill Running 56:08 [3] 6.23 mi (9:01 / mi) +480m 7:16 / mi

Pre-breakfast run round the Hexenwasser Loop anti-clockwise. Felt quite comfortable/good climbing the zigzags at a steady pace (33.50 to cattle grid). Descended fairly briskly. Nice and cool with a bit of must higher up. Great conditions and most enjoyable.
9 AM

Walking 2:19:00 [1] 6.47 mi (21:29 / mi) +570m 16:52 / mi

Got early bus to Ellmau then just got on the Wander minibus to Wochenbrunner with over 30 people crammed in it! Walked up into the mist directly up to the Gruttenhutte. Probably the most scenic hut in the area and it was misty! Still enjoyed the climb and Hanna flew up in 50mins. Headed down the Grutten Weg and thankfully the mist broke up a bit to give a view of the rocky Wilder Kaiser peaks at close hand. Very pleasant long descent to Scheffau. No bus when we expected one so carried on to Brandstadl lower station (stopped watch in Scheffau). Great walk.

9 AM

Walking 1:30:00 [1] +150m

Walk from the Brandstadl top station to Elmi's Zauberwelt then down the hill via Jaggerhutte & Rubezahlalm to the middle station. Got the gondola back up then walk back to Brandstadl. Various stops along the way for playing etc. Had been very wet overnight and was misty with light rain when we got up (blissfully cool), but improved through the day.
2 PM

Trail Running 52:48 [3] 6.65 mi (7:56 / mi) +280m 7:01 / mi

Ran out along the Schattseitweg and down to Bocking . Ran down the valley and took a slightly shorter route over to Soll via the Moorsee, and back. Sun had come out but temperature ok. Felt ok.
