With 30lb rucks, 1:30,000/1:40,000 maps, many slippery mountain faces, and in a capable group, Team D.A.N. got 2nd overall and 1st amongst cadets in certainly one of the most grueling events I've ever done!

Day 1 - Beautiful, steep, tall mountains and windy weather! We balanced ruck running with hiking, and it paid off as we reached base camp first for cadets by at least a few hours! Navigationally, very well overall with the exception of not finding two optional points, gambling for which cost us 3rd place on day one since they counted total time. F1 and F3. Dan and I found the literal stream intersection where F1 was supposed to be, but it wasn't there. It was dark, very windy, and starting to rain as we climbed the hill back to base camp to head in for the night somewhat defeated. As we returned everyone else had found it! Apparently, they used a different attackpoint (although they described it being hung over the streams, which was exactly where we were). 26.5 miles.

Day 2 - Long ridges and some super steep spurs! Dan and myself were out for revenge. We went too fast on Day 1 and did too well, to be defeated for a simple gamble. We hit the ground running at 0630 after stealing some breakfast from the van. Navigationally, we killed it today, grabbing the two optional points and never getting lost or having to search too hard for the point. There were certainly the steepest uphill, nonstopping climbs I've ever done. With the weight and exhaustion, it was pure pain - but we overcame, clutching the win of cadet teams by 3min overall! 19.5 miles.

We'll definitely do at least one of these a year. The team atmosphere, military application, mental toughness building, camping aspect, and physical challenge made the event a memorable one for sure!
