With NBRG . . knees took a long time to warm up, and the rest of me was even slower. Felt like I'd taken a few steps back but it's been a tough few days. Good little run, with good company.

O - EBOR - White Rose Middle - Scarborough - Blue

O is for Ouch! This was horrible and yet perversley I enjoyed almost every moment. I really couldn't run and so was reduced to shuffling along as best I could. The terrain was slippery, difficult to get through and extremely slopey which did nothing for my knees . .

I managed reasonably well, I thought . . found 8 before 7 but they were close together so not much harm done. Really struggled with 10 but eventually figured out where I should have been looking (that accounted for 10 minutes). 16 was a re-entrant but unfortunately after a real struggle to get to a control I discovered it was the wrong one, and finding "my" one took 11 minutes overall. I struggled a little with 20 - it was further south than I'd anticipated.

Then I ran into a tree bough and my glasses were pulled off (which I only realised when I looked down at my map and thought it was a bit blurred). It took a couple of minutes on my hands and knees before I found them, and my head was hurting. I found 21, and if you were to ask me I found 22 too, before moving on to 23 and the finish.

Nobody said anything at download and when I got back to York I found that my print out showed I'd missed 22. Checking my Garmin download, reluctantly I have to agree that I probably did. Don't understand how or why, but can't argue with the facts. Made worse by the fact that the results show me as the only V60 who missed a control. Had I completed the course I'd have been last by a long time but I'd prefer that somehow!

Apologies for the bleating. I can look forward to BOK Blast now!

O - EBOR - White Rose Classic - Scarborough - Blue

Loved this despite being reduced to walking much of it because my knees didn't want to play.

Found that most of the controls were where I expected them to be - although I would have struggled with the one beside the elevated beach huts if I hadn't seen someone else coming down the steps, and the later one that was kind of underneath the road was a beggar too. Loved seeing Scarborough again, and with kind weather it was simply a great morning out.

When I finished I was 3rd of 3 finishers, 27 minutes behind the leader. Don't expect (and don't care) to be much higher than last when all the results are available.

Looking forward to the Middle Distance event tomorrow.

Clevedon Court Wood 5k

A new race, which will be a three race series next summer. After a very steep climb out of a quarry it settled down into an undulating course on mostly soft tracks through the eponymous Woods, and very nice it was too.

Lots of friends also took part and it was nice to see so many of them win prizes and still offer me a lift home despite me being less successful than most!

Quite out of the blue, tired after last night's 5k, my fastest time around this loop by 30 seconds, despite telling myself to slow down throughout the run
