Two Bays- 13th
Tough day out and very different to anything I'd done before but happy enough with how I got through it. There was a lot of hype about how hard the early climb up Arthur's Seat was so I was pretty conservative on that and actually didn't find it too bad. Settled into a good rhythm after that, attacking the downhills and with enough people around me to keep me pushing myself. Things started to split up and I ended up alone from about 12-18ks. I think I slipped a bit into easy/longrun mode here and probably lost a fair bit of time because I wasn't really pushing much. Some guy caught me at that point and I stuck with him until the climb up to the next aid station at 22ks but then just hit the wall a bit. Tried to make a few surges in the last couple of ks to catch the guy in front of me but he kicked and got away from me.

I realised about halfway round that the longest running race I'd done up until this point was probably an 8k xc so I guess I can't really expect too much more from myself than what I did. I also went into the race treating it as a good challenge to have at this phase in my training (which it definitely was) rather than a race where I was desperate to get a certain result or time. I really enjoyed most of it as well, there were some fun sections of trail and lush views so I think I'll be back sometime in the next couple of years to try to put down a better time.

Wanted to do a lighter session so I don't wreck myself before two bays this weekend. Still felt like I was moving along alright although nothing special.

Back on the yarra trails. Went to see if I could get across the new bridge but there were lots of workers there and I didn't rate my chances of sneaking past them all so that'll have to wait for another day.

6x1k (60") with the group along the trail at Langford's aqueduct.
A lot less people this week and it was mainly the good ones left. Was more sensible this time and forced myself to have the full minute recovery which made it a lot more manageable. First 4 were consistent enough (3:20ish) but then the group I was with took shorter recoveries and I held back to give myself the full time which meant I was in a gap and a bit slower for the last two.
