Mission from Aniseed Valley to home, with a big pack.
Dropped off in Hope, was slow going up the hill into Aniseed with weight on my back. The forestry road I planned to go up had 'Private property' signs and barbed-wire. So went up the next one. My map and compass told me the road was going the wrong way, but it was recently felled so who knew how accurate the map was anyway. Looked ok. Wasn't really, was old and bit overgrown so I did lots of pushing. Bashed through some gorse and logs, only to admit defeat at a dead end, and too steep to go straight up, so had to retreat and bash back through. Was sooo hot, and I was tired. Lots of micro stops, plus some rest stops in any small bit of shade I could find. Another short bash, managed to pick up my bike on my back, got me to a slightly better track, still mostly steep til I got to the top though. Got blisters on my heels from walking. Could see the track I had meant to take, but already come too far. Gave up trying to Nav by map and started using my phone-gps to make sure I was going the right way. At the top of Richmond Hill, chatted to a runner and Fire-watch man (and got more water). Much more rideable along the Barnicoat ridge (some small pinches) and felt better. Clouded over so was cooler. Went round the Sanctaury fence (even involved a downhill walk! too steep). Glad to get to Third house and cruise down the Dun trail. Swim in the Brook stream, then nachos and beer, then a nap were the perfect finish

The Long Loop race, from Tahuna around Rabbit Is. with Brent. We paddled steady which was our goal. I concentrated on technique and relaxing my shoulders to start with, meant my shoulders didn't get sore around the 30 min mark as they sometimes do. My left hip started getting sore so I moved foot pedals, tried not to whinge tho. But then I got a really sore wrist, became bearable when I stopped flexing it (and came right quickly afterwards, thankfully). Quite a bit of side chop, esp from island back to beach. I would've struggled in my ski.

Grey and windy, but was actually fun out there. Dore to start with trying to catch Dave, but then I gave up and staying in the Haven (when I saw waves breaking over the boulder bank). Little wavelets to surf on (from N)

Left hip/back/glute has been mildly painful for ages and particularly today sitting after running so I went to see the Osteopath.
Probably should stretch more too
