footy training AFL 1:00:00 [4]

A scratch game, 7 a side as practise for sunday. I couldn't get there in time for the first hour of skills, squeezed in a little practise kicking and hand balling before we started but it wasn't enough, I kept throwing the ball (epic fail). Did some excellent tackling and most excitingly I KICKED 3 GOALS!!! Really couldn't be happier. I reached peak Helen at that moment. I have now been playing AFL for 6 days. Lily asked me to join their summer comp of AFL 9s "because I'm good" ahahahahaha. I love this so much.

I hurt everywhere!

That might be a new PB for home to yoga (top of driveway). Was very late, only one brief red light, stood up and burnt my quads, tyres pumped, chain oiled. Yep I'm calling it a PB. Made lying down in yoga feel great! Good thing to do after footy and yesterday's massage.

(rest day)

Booked a session with sports massage person Wayne just in case I was falling apart. Feeling surprisingly good after this. I think footy has cured my back/hammy/glute issues (for time being). Just doing something different sometimes works. Massage was brilliant and I don't know if a more positive person exists than Wayne - love his work :)

footy training AFL 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: purple inov8 trailrocs

A focus on tackling skills; you've got your vertical hugging (pin the arms, low stance and bend knees) and from there you can sink into the horizontal ground hugging. We practised lots and lots of hugging. Very troggable. Then we played a short game on the full sized ground, yay! I played half back ( I think) and marked someone who was a lot faster (and approx half my age). Highlight moment was an excellent successful tackle which won me a free kick. I was so surpised that I forgot some of my kicking technique and achieved more vertical height than distance.

We got our jumpers and socks today which was so exciting. I am number 27. I can't believe how much fun I get out of this. It's like being high on a perfect drug. Most of the time I am a solo musician so I think the buzz is meeting some colleagues and being welcomed in to the tribe. A lot of them play in bands so they get some musician social life.
When everyone stopped for a beer afterwards I kept practising my kicking with someone called Cameron. Oh yeah, our team is the Limestones.

Note

I cannot believe that I can walk this morning. The only sore thing is my feet. I don't have proper footy boots (obviously) but I think I can get away with my Inov8 Trailrocs. Perhaps a delayed response is looming and I will hurt everywhere tomorrow

Very busy day, long reheasal, Improv workshop and even longer hens night. commuted and that's it. It was an active day due to much dancing and physical theatre stuff. Also did some gardening in the morning. Still no stiffness after footy training except a little back stiffness, my usual issue.

Running 20:00 [3]
shoes: helios - black

Very enjoyable run with imo on south side of blackie. We weren't sure whether it would just be a walk but after a warm up and some short intervals of run somehow we ended up running all the way back. Time running is a guess. Gorgeous day after big soaking rain; sunny, humid, shiny and a good catch up chat. Even for our 1 minute up hill interval I talked the whole way, proving that my lungs are way ahead of my legs.

We spent some time admiring the construction of the curving stone wall with plank seat. Imo wants to make one in her garden. My back is definitely feeling warmer and less tight the last 2 days :)

to Lightbulb, played the piano, good audience and new space is great. Stayed for Capital Punishment and was tempted by the mc to be a contestant. Resisted probably for the last time, next time I'll be up on stage attempting a pun competition. There's no way I could come even close to the 3 champions on tonight - such quick thinkers and committed punsters.

Now I have to think of a pun name.... Alison Punderland?
