Sprint Orienteering race 18:58 [5] 2.8 km (6:46 / km)

Scottish Sprint Championships 2019, Uphall North, M50 (2.8 km) in 18:58. Brisk and almost clean run on chilly morning with patches of ice on the ground in places. Small loss at 17, when I didn't read the description and ended up standing still on the wrong side of a wall. Winner Ben S 17:06, 2nd Jon X 17:15, 3rd SKW 18:58. Didn't want to wait more than two hours for Race 2 of the ESOC Sprint O, but instead ...

Terrain Run 54:21 [3]

... went for a slow plod round an anti-clockwise loop of The Whangie with Alice (who kept shooting off into the distance at alarming speed) in 54:21. Slushy snow and ice underfoot. Grey skies, but no snow or rain (both of which had fallen earlier in the day).

Road Run 5:00 [1]

Slow jog into the Park as a token warm up.
9 AM

Trail Race race 28:42 [3] 5.0 km (5:44 / km)

Tollcross parkrun #301. Slow plod round the alternative course (four short laps on the grass) on a chilly morning with frost on the ground but sunshine from a clear blue sky. Not feeling great - a bit of a slog.
6 PM

Night Orienteering race 46:54 [5] 6.6 km (7:06 / km)

Scottish Night Championships 2019, John Muir Country Park, M50 (6.6 km) in 46:54. Chilly evening with hard ground underfoot, but not cold while running. Excited and looking forward to the race. Fast and clean, over taking Emma (who had fallen) at 4 and pushing hard to stay ahead of her. Fast and clean to 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 (with fastest splits at 6, 8 and 9) before Ben (who had lost time at 8) went past me on the way to 10. Followed Ben to 11, but he/we overshot and we lost at least a minute (probably more - looks like all of the M50s missed this to some extent). Slight wobble at 13 (costing 15 seconds?). Ben caught me again at 14 and then pulled away on the dead running to 15 and 16. Lost Ben by taking a slightly ill-advised shortcut through the terrain to 17, and then missed a track junction (costing 40 seconds?) so ran two sides of a triangle of paths to 18, then straight to the finish via 19. SCOTTISH M50 CHAMPION BY 37 SECONDS! Very pleased with the win over a good quality field.

Interval Session intervals 1:11:10 [4]

Garscube interval session at Todd Campus on a cold and icy evening with ice forming on the road and salt needed to keep the route (relatively) ice free. Warm up, then 2 x (1 x 1,200 m, 1 x 1,000 m, 1 x 800 m), then warm down. Session 71:10.
