Was very optimistically hoping for the night race tomorrow, but it's not going to happen :(

These things are a revelation. First thirty seconds were pure terror and would've resulted in a nasty fall had a handy car not been there to land on. Luckily it was both unoccupied and stationary.

Then everything just felt easier and my average speed increased significantly. More significantly, it was a much better aerobic exercise rather than just destroying the legs, so it should keep my cardio fitness in better shape. Hopefully.

While watching the 1988 World XC Champs (thanks Phil).

Some unbelievable times from the Kenyans ("who don't train for a lot of the year; they work on their family farms, and the work is so hard they maintain their fitness") - impressive stuff. Maybe I should get a farm.

Trying to maintain some semblance of fitness.

Nice, if expensive, lunch in Bradford-on-Avon with Alan, then he had a rendezvous to keep so we got the train to Bath to avoid the horrendously muddy canal path section between Bradford and Midford.

Feel far less wrecked than after last week despite going both further and faster, so I guess it's just something you get used to.
